Rita Fahy (1955-2023) was a recognized expert in evacuation modelling and human behavior in fire[1][2]. Dr Fahy carried out many pioneering work in the field by developing one of the first evacuation model in the history (Exit 89), the myths surrounding the panic concept in evacuation.[3][4] Father, Dr Fahy made substantial contributions in data collection of human behavior in fires developing one of the first evacuation database for fire protection engineers.[5]

Given her contribution in the fire safety science, Fire Technology journal has opened a new Special Issue to commemorate her life and work.[6]

Education

Dr Fahy educations include the following titles[7]:

Career

Rita spent her career at the National Fire Protection Association.[1] She was involved in the lecturing in the IMFSE Human Behavior in Fire course at Lund University. She was involved in the development of new fire engineering standards with the International Organization for Standardization.
