In a fascinating isolation experiment in the world of Skyrim, the Reddit user known as Jaeinskyrim has undertaken an extraordinary mission: eliminating a total of 4,601 NPCs and creatures with the aim of enjoying a completely solitary gaming experience. This act of social distancing becomes a commentary on the diversity of personalities among players, as while some seek company and interaction, others prefer solitude and meditation in their virtual environments.
The feat of Jaeinskyrim was not simple. With patience and dedication, it took about a month to carry out his destructive mission, using mods that allowed him to eliminate not only the humanoid characters, of which there were 2,201, but also up to 2,400 creatures of all kinds, including deer and wolves. In Skyrim, many NPCs regenerate automatically, so the player had to devise a strategy to deal with this mechanic, even disabling those beings considered essential and indestructible by the game system developed by Bethesda.
Solitude, with a but: someone had to stay alive
Despite his attempt to eradicate all forms of life in the vast realm of Skyrim, Jaeinskyrim made a significant decision: he decided to spare the dragon Paarthurnax. This act not only reflects human nature but also symbolizes a desire for companionship, even in isolation. “Paarthurnax deserves better than that. He lives. However, he leaves me in peace,” declared Jaeinskyrim, thus highlighting his need for connection, even if through a mythical being.
The story of Jaeinskyrim invites reflection on the different play styles and how each player interprets their experience in an open world, where solitude and companionship can coexist in surprising ways.
