From Proto-Semitic *daṯʔ-. Cognate with Akkadian 𒌑𒇷𒀀𒊬 (dīšu [U2.LI.Asar], “grass”). Compare with Classical Syriac ܬܕܐܐ (“sprouting grass, herb; spring”).
