deletion objection
editI strongly object to the deletion. Playback singers are a defining feature of Bollywood movies (and indeed Indian cinema in general). If we don't have a place to list singers, then people will start adding their favorites to the main Bollywood (and other Indian cinema) articles, which are already staggering under the weight of undigested detail.
The article has problems, in that editors have indulged their passions for favorite singers. I will see if I can work on the article to make it more evenhanded. I don't think I'm fanatic about any of the playback singers (though I admit to loving the work of singer Bombay Jayashri, who has done very little filmi work). I'm swamped, but I'll see what I can do. I don't know who proposed the deletion but ... please sir or maam, this is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. Zora (talk) 09:42, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Removal of Comments Column
editThe Comments column serves no purpose in this article. It just attracts spam. I propose to remove the column entirely. Awaiting others' opinions. I might remove it, if no body opposes in 10 days. --Anbu121 (talk me) 01:27, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hmmm, that might be a good idea. You can get an idea of the importance of a singer just from a list of awards. Any info about personal life, best-known songs, etc. could go in the article for that singer. OR, perhaps you could have a KNOWN FOR column with a hard limit of three songs. Let the fans argue which are the three best. Zora (talk) 08:41, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- That could again bring in edit warring. --Anbu121 (talk me) 08:53, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
- Anywhere you've got fans you've got edit warring :( But perhaps you're right, perhaps the place to conduct hostilities is in an article about the singer. Zora (talk) 18:14, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
In my opinion, comment section should be removed. Playback singers usually sing over hundreds/thousands of songs and also that some singers are more popular than other. If we have the comment section then other user/ip users will add more good things about their best singer and may also add some bad comments on others. Also that languages section provides more or less all the information needed. Torreslfchero (talk) 18:33, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Gross inflation of some entries
editShreya Ghoshal's entry is now over a foot long. Every picayune award ever won is listed, each with its own line. The entry is longer than Lata Mangeshkar's. I suspect that some fan or agent is editing here.
There should be a limit on space devoted to one singer. No one's entry to be longer than Lata's or Asha's? :) Zora (talk) 20:27, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
Lists still grossly inflated
editNothing has been done. Singers listed as singing in dozens of languages (they cannot possibly know all of them) and winning dozens of awards -- some of which may be primary school song contests for all we know. I would suggest limiting languages to five (most commonly sung lyrics) and awards to five (most prestigious). If singer has won several of the same kind of award, can add the number. Comments?
