Iva Jovic

Iva Jovic (Serbian: Ива Јовић, Iva Jović; born 6 December 2007) is an American tennis player.[1] She has a career-high combined junior ranking of No. 5, achieved on 15 July 2024. She won two junior Grand Slam titles in girls' doubles, at the 2024 Australian Open and the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Early life

Iva Jovic was born to father Bojan and mother Jelena, both Serbian immigrants.[2] She has an older sister, Mia.[3] She is from Torrance, California, and resides in Los Angeles.[4][5]

Jovic began playing tennis at the age of five.[6]

Junior career

Jovic won the U14 singles event at the Orange Bowl in December 2021.[7]

She was runner-up at the inaugural International Junior Championships held at the site of the Indian Wells Open in March 2023, being defeated by Clervie Ngounoue in the final.[8]

Alongside compatriot Tyra Caterina Grant she won the doubles at the Orange Bowl in Plantation, Florida in 2022 and again in 2023 when they defeated top-seeded Czech paring of Alena Kovackova and Laura Samsonova.[9] Grant, Jovic and Alanis Hamilton played as part of the victorious American team at the 2023 Junior Billie Jean Cup, winning the tournament without dropping a set. In her singles matches, Jovic only lost 26 games in total during her 12 sets played.[10]

With Grant she won the final of the girls' doubles draw at the 2024 Australian Open. The pair did not drop a set in the tournament.[11] The pair also reached the final of the girls' doubles at the 2024 French Open.[12] Jovic and Grant won the girls' doubles title at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.[13]

Professional career

In June 2022, Jovic made her professional debut as a wildcard at the $15k SoCal Pro Circuit Jack Kramer Club event in Los Angeles,[14] where she reached the final.[15] In October 2023, she won her first title at the $25k Ascension Project Women's Open in Redding.[16]

2024: Grand Slam debut and first win

She made her Grand Slam debut at the 2024 US Open after receiving a wildcard for the main draw in singles and doubles, because of a victory in the USTA's U18 National Championships, making her the youngest participant at the tournament.[17][18][19] She recorded her first Grand Slam and WTA Tour win over Magda Linette.[20] She became the youngest American to win a women’s main-draw match at the US Open since 2000.[21][22]
