🚛 UP Catalyst Production is moving to a larger location! Just in time for our fifth anniversary, our Production team has moved to a larger facility near the Iru waste-to-energy power plant, located just a 20-minute ride from Tallinn. This new space accommodates more equipment and team members, with a direct power connection line from Iru in the future. Maardu area is developing rapidly and we're excited to be neighbours with the new Elcogen factory that is currently under construction nearby. More cleantech production in Estonia? Absolutely!

Advancing Sustainability at NORDEEP Summit - Deep Tech Business Summit 2024! 🚀 Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to attend the Nordeep - Deep Tech Business Summit 2024 in Espoo, Finland. As the world’s leading deep tech business summit, NORDEEP brought together everything a deep tech startup needs: funding, experts, talent, and clients—all under one roof. Our CEO, Gary Urb, PhD, and CFO, Rait Maasikas, took the main stage to share our mission of making batteries more sustainable by locally producing carbon materials from CO2. We're thrilled to be at the forefront of deep tech innovation and can't wait to see what the future holds! #DeepTech #Innovation #Sustainability #NordeepSummit2024 #TechForGood

🎉 🥂 🎂 Last week, UP Catalyst celebrated its fifth anniversary! From the initial idea to a lab-scale reactor producing several grams a day, to a container-sized reactor with a production capacity of 10 tons per year, we have achieved big milestones. The quality of our carbon materials produced from CO₂ emissions has been verified by research institutions, our clients and partners. We still have a long journey ahead, with the goal of establishing at least 200 CO₂ utilisation facilities of various scales across the EU to supply sustainable graphite and carbon nanomaterials to European battery manufacturers and other industries. A big and warm thank you to the UP Catalyst core team, all our new team members and interns, as well as our investors, partners, and friends for being with us! Photo credit: Erlend Štaub.

📣 We extended our €4M seed round with another €2.3M to accelerate the production scale-up. The urgency of increasing our production capacity has never been clearer as we work to provide a local, sustainable alternative to fossil fuel-based imports from China. ❗ By 2030, the EU will require 3 million tons of carbon materials for electric vehicle batteries. Despite having the potential to utilise 11 million tons of CO₂ through existing technology, the EU currently invests in underground storage and imports fossil-based materials. ✅ Additional investment will allow us to finalise the construction of the new reactor faster, which will boast a production capacity ten times larger 📈 than the current setup, marking a significant milestone towards the construction of a large-scale industrial facility in 2030. 💡 The funding round saw equal participation from Warsaw Equity Group, a leading private investment firm in Central and Eastern Europe, and Estonia's state fund SmartCap, who also contributed to the previous seed round. Existing investors, including Extantia, Sunly, Little Green Fund, Scottish Baltic Invest, and UniTartu Ventures, continue to support UP Catalyst’s mission to scale its production capabilities.  Massive thanks to the whole team and to Gary Urb, PhD, Sebastian Pohlmann, Teele Niidas, Rait Maasikas, Einar Karu, Karl-Gustav Tamberg, Ann Laheäär, Sander Trofimov

We are happy to have been selected as one of the eight start-ups for LeapSprong Amsterdam program facilitated by Rockstart and Energy Transition Campus Amsterdam ! During the coming months, UP Catalyst will explore ways to contribute positively to Amsterdam’s goal of becoming a climate-neutral and circular city. To read more: https://lnkd.in/gMnxCKi2 How does UP Catalyst make cities and industries more sustainable? 1. UP Catalyst helps industries to reduce their CO₂ emission by converting them into valuable carbon materials. CO₂ footprint of our product is less than 0.1 ton of CO₂-eq/ton of material. 2. We provide industries with locally produced graphite and carbon nanomaterials, enabling them to move away from fossil-based carbon.

MEMBER NEWS | Welcome to Our New Member UP Catalyst!   Based in Estonia, UP Catalyst produces sustainable carbon nanomaterials and graphite directly from CO₂ emissions. These carbon materials have a wide range of applications, including batteries and supercapacitors, paints and coatings, concrete, composites, and electronics.   CO₂ from industrial emissions is pulled into the molten salt synthesis reactor. With the molten salt heated to a high temperature working as an electrolyte, CO₂ undergoes the process of electrolysis. A voltage difference applied to electrodes kick-starts the process of breaking down the CO₂ molecules. As a result, oxygen is released, with carbon being collected and then purified.   To synthesise one ton of green carbon materials, UP Catalyst needs 3.7 tons of gaseous CO₂ and only electricity as an active ingredient. At scale, this method can utilise CO₂ streams from hard-to-abate industries such as concrete, steel, glass, and chemical production, preventing CO₂ from reaching the atmosphere and immobilising it within the carbon material.  Find out more about UP Catalyst at https://upcatalyst.com/.
