Navigating the New DEI Landscape: An Experience Report

Published: 16 May 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Recently, the US Supreme Court prohibited affirmative action in college admissions, and laws in some states have restricted DEI efforts. This experience report describes a webinar series designed to assist higher education faculty and staff, particularly those focused on engineering education, in navigating this new legal landscape. The webinars focused on improving participant understanding of recent legal changes, evaluating ideas for supporting students, and developing community. The webinars were broadly successful in reaching these goals, but we also note some areas for improvement and lessons learned, including the complexities of designing professional development in a rapidly changing landscape.
