Using Distributed Foot Pressure to Analyze the Effect of Walking Speed on Foot Pressure Distribution

Published: 07 November 2023 Publication History

Abstract

The distribution of plantar pressure was affected by different walking speeds.Plantar stress is thought to have a great connection with human health. Some foot disease features may be manifested by abnormal distribution of plantar pressure. The monitoring of plantar pressure distribution was indicated to be of great significance. To solve the problems of the existing plantar pressure acquisition system being expensive and cumbersome, a distributed plantar pressure acquisition device was designed. Firstly, the motion pressure information of eight regions of the plantar foot at different walking speeds was synchronously acquired by the device. Secondly, the peak point characteristics of pressure signals in each region are extracted. Then, fused distributed plantar pressure is used to divide gait cycles. Finally, the method of linear mechanical analysis is proposed to be applied to explore the effect of gait speed on the pressure distribution in different regions of the plantar foot. Experimental results were reported as follows:With the increase of step speed, the force on the first metatarsal, first toe, outer heel, rearl heel and second to third metatarsal areas of the foot was significantly increased. While the force on the middle foot area is significantly decreased. When the walking speed was increased from 2 to 6 km / h, the first metatarsal region was the most affected by speed, and the regional amplitude pressure occupancy ratio was increased maximumly by 35.2%, whereas the middle foot region was decreased by 5.1%.
