A Novel Ultrawideband Antenna Employing Tightly Coupled Elements Arrays with Resistive FSS

Published: 13 April 2022 Publication History

Abstract

A tightly coupled array (TCA) with resistive frequency selective surface (RFSS) is presented, the impedance bandwidth of TCA is greatly improved by inserting a square split ring RFSS between the array and ground plane(GP), which suppresses the GP reflection and avoids the short circuited frequency. The simulated result shows that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR<2) of TCA with RFSS is 12.8:1(1.5∼19.2GHz), while without RFSS the impedance bandwidth is changed into two band and the gain of antenna array is reduced by 0.5∼2.8dB due to the loss of RFSS.
