Computing Opportunities for Students of Color

Published: 02 July 2019 Publication History

Abstract

In fall 2018, the authors established a new student organization at DePauw University to address the severe underrepresentation of students of color (SoC) in computing. The organization, Computing Opportunities for Students of Color (COSOC), aims to create a community for SoC and to establish a sense of belonging through role modeling, mentoring, tutoring, and a series of academic and community events. This poster describes the need for such an organization, goals and objectives, pilot study, main components of COSOC, positive preliminary impact on SoC (including enrollment data), and additional planned assessment. Finally, the poster lists future plans for COSOC.
