Abstract

Interactive technology has been one of the most important inseparable wheels of SIGGRAPH Asia, and the Emerging Technologies program plays a vital role in driving the development of research communities all over the world to pursue technological innovations that will have an impact on everyday life. To drive research that will help our lives in future, extensive research on creating working prototypes with novel technological innovations is crucial.

This year, the Emerging Technologies program presents a broad scope of topics, reflecting the innovation of interactive technologies and a maturation of the field as it expands to include interactive visualization and other graphics-related technologies.

Be fascinated by hands-on demonstrations that expand the limits of current display technologies, and exciting new hardware that enable sophisticated and nuanced user input, innovative interaction techniques that enable more complex interaction with application data and functionality, as well as excellent examples of haptics developed to support multi-/cross-modality scenarios.

A mixed-reality showcase for multiple users from unconstrained viewing angles

An ideal showcase should allow its viewers not only see the display object clearly, but also obtain sufficient information of the object by static texts or dynamic images. This extra information will enhance the impression the display object makes on ...

ARAtouch: visuo-haptic interaction with mobile rear touch interface

"ARAtouch" is a visuo-haptic system that is able to evoke haptic sensations on a mobile device via only haptic illusions, without the use of a haptic interface.

Comix: beyond: evoking multiple emotions using pseudo body responses depending on the context

This study aims to evoke multiple emotions by presenting combinations of sensory stimulus based on the contexts in contents such as a comic as if the user feels those as their own real bodily responses.

Concert viewing headphones

We designed concert viewing headphones that let a user listening and watching to music scope a particular part of the performance that he or she wants to hear and see. The headphones are equipped with a projector, an inclination sensor on the top of the ...

Cuddly: enchant your soft objects with a mobile phone

We are surrounded by soft objects such as plush toys, cushions etc. in our daily lives: people often hug soft objects when they are feeling emotional such as while watching movies, or they tend to punch or throw objects when they are feeling frustrated. ...

D-FLIP: dynamic & flexible interactive PhotoShow

We propose D-FLIP, a novel algorithm that dynamically displays a set of digital photos using different principles for organizing them. A combination of requirements for photo arrangements can be flexibly replaced or added through the interaction and the ...

Data-driven suggestions for portrait posing

Next to lighting, posing is the most challenging aspect of portrait photography. A commonly adopted solution is to learn by example, which is beneficial for both trained photographers and novice users, especially when subjects have no clue about how to ...

DeforMe: projection-based visualization of deformable surfaces using invisible textures

In this paper, we present DeforMe, a new projection-based mixed reality technique for augmenting deformable surfaces with deformation rendering graphics. DeforMe combines a geometry tracking method with a deformation reconstruction model to estimate the ...

Jointonation: robotization of the human body by vibrotactile feedback

Movies, comics, and video games frequently involve robotic heroes composed of metallic parts. Although these characters exist only in the realm of fantasy, many of us would be interested in becoming them, if only for a short time. The question therefore ...
