Yesterday, our colleagues Dana Fuentes and Fanny Marchand had the opportunity to engage with the Master 2 students of "Economic Expertise in Development Policies and Projects" at the Institut d'études du développement de la Sorbonne in Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. We discussed how we bring meaningfulness into development and how we each see our role in contributing to realizing human potential. It is a bootcamp where we delve into the culture of Voluntās, and explore what makes us who we are. ♥️ This year in Tunis, we spent time reflecting on the past, present, and especially the future of Voluntās — considering how we can increase our impact and continue to realize human potential in the organizations we work with and in the societies we serve. 🤝   Curiosity is at the heart of who we are. At Voluntās, we believe that the voices of young people are key to shaping a meaningful society. And for that, we need facts above assumptions. ⚖️ Recently, we supported Tuborgfondet in conducting a comprehensive study involving over 1,500 young people across Denmark. The study aimed to uncover their dreams, concerns, and what they value most for their future. Some key findings include: ♥️ Young people dream of starting a family: When asked openly, their main dreams revolve around having children, finding a life partner, and creating a loving home. 🎓 Young people want less pressure and perfection in education: They dream of an inclusive education system with less performance pressure. 🌊 Young people are concerned about climate change and war: The climate crisis emerged as the top concern for 27% of respondents, followed by fears of war and global instability (17%) 🧠 Mental well-being and welfare are most important to prioritize: When asked about various areas, 62% of young people believe that “Mental well-being and welfare” should be prioritized above all else. Yesterday, we at Voluntās celebrated a noticeable milestone — Jeppe Fischer's 5-year anniversary with us. 👏   From the moment Jeppe joined our team, it was clear that he brought something truly special. Described by Morten Albæk as one of his most indispensable philosophical sparring partners, Jeppe’s journey with Voluntās has been marked by his deep wisdom, thoughtfulness, and empathy — qualities that make him an incredible Lead Anthropologist and an even better colleague. 🫶   Jeppe, you embody what Voluntās strives to be: reflective, honest, and driven by curiosity. As Ernest Hemingway once said: "I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen." This quote captures your approach perfectly — you truly listen, and in doing so, you inspire all of us to do the same. 🌱   We are grateful for your insights, your humor, and your generosity of spirit. As the Summit of the Future concludes, we must ask: Are we truly addressing the emotional well-being of young people, especially in fragile and conflict-affected environments? At Voluntās, we believe in creating environments where youth experience meaning, dignity, and purpose. Through the Youth Meaningfulness Index (YMI), in partnership with the alv foundation, UNICEF, UNESCO, and The Gleding Company we’re uncovering how young people, from Ukraine to Kenya, build resilience through community and personal agency. In this paper, Fanny Marchand, Head of the Voluntās Foundation, calls on policymakers and international organizations to rethink the metrics they use to design programs and measure the impact of their work on children and youth. Beyond Basic Needs: Redefining Social Impact   At Voluntās, we believe that humanitarian efforts should aim higher than just survival. Addressing basic needs is essential, but what truly matters is the impact we have on human beings and their sense of hope, dignity, and purpose in life.   Our Global Meaningfulness Index challenges the traditional ways we measure societal progress, offering a new perspective on human well-being. Remarkably, our findings reveal that as material prosperity increases in societies, the sense of meaning people experience often decreases. We are excited to announce that Voluntās is the consultancy partner of Political Science Case Challenge for 2025. Alongside Udenrigsministeriet as the case partner, we will do our utmost to inspire the next generation of leaders to tackle some of the world’s most pressing political challenges. Taking place in Copenhagen on March 13-14, 2025, the PSCC 2025 will bring together 70+ bright students from various social science disciplines. Participants will be tasked with solving a real-world case that pushes the boundaries of strategic thinking, diplomacy, and impact. We are eager to be inspired by the curiosity, fresh perspectives, and thoughtful reflections of various academic backgrounds and look forward to engaging in several meaningful conversations.
