👏👏 Congratulations to South Sudan and Côte d'Ivoire on the launch of the new malaria vaccines this week! The introduction of these life-saving vaccines marks a major milestone in national and global efforts to protect the health and well-being of children and save them from this deadly disease. Nearly half a million children under the age of five die each year from malaria. Now, thanks to the new malaria vaccines, many more children’s lives will be saved. With the countries involved in the lead, UNICEF continues to work with partners to support the delivery of these vaccines to children in areas where malaria is endemic, alongside the delivery of other critical supplies to fight malaria, including insecticide-treated bed nets, diagnostic tests, treatment supplies and cold chain strengthening.

Om os
UNICEF sources, procures and delivers over $7.383 billion annually in supplies and services that are critical in fulfilling children’s rights. The UNICEF supply and logistics headquarters in Copenhagen ensures that affordable life-saving supplies are available in the right quantity and of the right quality, wherever children are in need. As well as supporting UNICEF’s ongoing programmatic activities, the Supply function provides rapid supply response to emergencies. Strategies to achieve results for children focus on influencing global markets for supplies, product innovation and supply chain strengthening. Cross-cutting strategies in monitoring, evaluation, partnerships with health and development organizations, governments and the private sector, and establishing learning opportunities for staff are also critical areas that enable Supply Division’s work.

Over 100,000 doses of cholera vaccines arrived in Mozambique this week - critical for protecting children and families from the deadly disease. As cholera outbreaks continue, UNICEF and partners are supporting the deployment of vaccines along with diagnostic tests and life-saving supplies.

‘Zero-dose’ children are those left furthest behind – who go without access to basic routine vaccines. To close this immunization gap and reach every child with the lifesaving vaccines they need requires investment in primary healthcare and community workers, health system strengthening, and innovation. UNICEF works with partners and governments across the world to help provide affordable, quality-assured vaccines for every child.

After a successful pilot project in Mozambique which reduced importation delays, UNICEF Supply is now scaling this initiative to more countries. By working together, we can strengthen supply chains and improve children's health and well-being globally.
Efficient supply chains mean faster access to essential supplies for children. In 2023, UNICEF procured $5.244 billion in supplies and services, and delivered 2.79 billion vaccine doses to 105 countries. But supplies can face delays at borders, slowing down delivery when it’s needed most. Through our work with the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation UNICEF supports countries to improve supply chain efficiency and transparency through digitalisation. After a successful pilot project in Mozambique which reduced importation delays, UNICEF is now scaling this initiative to more countries, starting with Madagascar, Honduras and Nepal. By working together, we can strengthen supply chains and improve children's health and well-being globally.
