Steensen Varming was founded in Copenhagen in 1933 by Niels Steensen and Jørgen Varming. We worked in close cooperation with architects such as Arne Jacobsen and clients such as the Nobel Prize winner, Professor Niels Bohr. The organisation developed internationally, working with Basil Spence and James Stirling in the UK. The Sydney Opera House commission with Jørn Utzon brought our practice to Australia. Today, Steensen Varming operates globally across five countries on four continents, continuing to provide unrivalled expertise in mechanical and electrical building services, lighting design and sustainability, seamlessly assimilating form and function, art and technology Inspired by the Vitruvian principles of solidity, utility and beauty, Steensen Varming work by a guiding triad to produce positive design solutions that are intelligent, valuable and elegant. These encompass architectural and urban design, the private, corporate and public sectors, modest upgrades and World Heritage Sites. Through more than eight decades of technological change and increased environmental sensitivity, Steensen Varming have supported an exceptional cast of international architects and buildings, building on the Danish heritage and design approach to enable the best building design where functionality and wellbeing are paramount. This program aims to promote and support women in the property and construction industry, creating networking opportunities and encouraging more women to advance in the field. McGregor Coxall have won the 2024 Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Award for The Drying Green, in recognition of exceptional forward-thinking designs and greater progress towards more sustainable environments. Located on Gadigal Country, The Drying Green Park is the centrepiece of a network of green spaces servicing the local Green Square community. The origami-inspired design delivers the world's first ecological engine - an innovative urban wetland that harnesses green-and-blue living infrastructure. Each day, one-third of an Olympic pool of polluted water passes through the high-tech system and is returned clean to Alexandria Canal. Once again positively contributing to the liveability of Green Square, the Drying Green's regenerative landscape and concurrent waterways bring new meaning in pursuit of resilience within Sydney's urban environments. Awarded by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design – the Green GOOD DESIGN Awards celebrate the world’s most important examples of sustainable design.
