Implement Consulting Group and Google have investigated what impact generative AI will have on jobs and society, and our study indicates that 64% of all jobs are expected to work together with generative AI, but only 6% of them are likely to be fully automated. And if done right, AI can boost Denmark’s GDP by DKK 200-250 billion during the next 10 years. At the company level, the work sees immense potential, but often the approach to generative AI is scattered and reactive and to capture the next wave of AI benefits across society, we need to promote innovation, invest in skills, ensure clear rules and take a strategic approach to drive the agenda proactively. This comprehensive report, written by myself and Sofie Hvitved, delves deep into the evolving role of consumers within the immersive digital realms of the Metaverse. While current technologies are merely stepping stones, the true essence of the Metaverse lies in its trajectory—how it adapts, grows, and integrates into our digital lives. There's undeniable buzz around the Metaverse, with over 100,000 articles published last year alone, according to Accenture. However, a staggering 85% of these discussions overlook consumer needs. It’s crucial we shift focus to the consumer perspective, exploring how this digital evolution affects shopping, socializing, and the meaning derived from digital interactions. By understanding and anticipating changes in consumer behavior, brands can offer more immersive, interactive, and personalized experiences, blurring the lines between digital and physical worlds. Finnish companies, with their strong foundations in technology, design, education, and sustainability, are exceptionally positioned to lead in this arena. The goal of this project is to explore how the Metaverse represents not just a challenge, but a horizon of opportunities for Finnish businesses to shape the future of digital interaction. This report originates from a project launched by Business Finland’s Consumer business industry team and foresight, aiming to uncover opportunities and navigate potential barriers within the consumer metaverse.
