Last week, we hosted a phenomenal global company event in Copenhagen, bringing together 250 colleagues from six offices. It was a unique event in many ways, not least due to the positive energy and passion everyone brought. After acquiring Penfield Marine earlier this year, this was the first time for many of us to meet in person. We spent three action-packed days uniting as one team, building new friendships and bridging different national and company cultures. Most importantly, we laid the foundation for a unique company culture together based on shared values. Thanks to everyone for a fantastic week.

It is fantastic to be part of a group of companies that play a leading role in the transition towards a more sustainable shipping industry.
The A.P. Moller Group traces its origins back to 1886 when Captain Peter Mærsk Møller bought the steamship Laura. We are proud that to this day, our Group includes maritime companies that continue to innovate while leading the transition towards a more sustainable shipping industry. In 2023, A.P. Moller - Maersk deployed the world's first green methanol-enabled container vessel, named Laura Maersk. Since then, two large methanol-enabled vessels have joined Maersk’s fleet: Ane Maersk and Astrid Maersk. Both are part of the 18 large methanol-enabled newbuilds scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2025. Maersk Tankers is pioneering the transportation of clean ammonia, an alternative green energy source with many applications. The Very Large Ammonia Carriers Maersk Tankers has ordered will help meet the global market need for seaborne transportation of clean ammonia. At the same time, in its capacity as one of the world’s largest tanker operators, Maersk Tankers is in a unique position to help improve the environmental and commercial performance of the fleets it operates. Improving ship and fuel efficiency is a key step in shipping’s energy transition: it lowers emissions by lowering fuel consumption. Emission-saving efficiency is also the bread and butter of ZeroNorth. ZeroNorth’s platform uses data-driven technology blended with human expertise to help the shipping industry reduce its impact on the climate while maintaining commercial performance. #apmoller #nyttigvirksomhed #ownerswithapurpose

Penfield Marine is now Maersk Tankers. Penfield Marine has changed its name and will from now work under the Maersk Tankers brand. The rebranding is part of the ongoing integration of the two companies. In January, Maersk Tankers announced that it had acquired Penfield Marine to create a tanker company with unique reach, offering pool partners and customers a wider range of services. We marked the milestone across our different offices and are thrilled to officially welcome our new colleagues in Southport, London and Singapore to the Maersk Tankers brand. In 1972, INGE MÆRSK became the inaugural gas tanker to join the Maersk Tankers fleet. During the 1950s, small-scale transportation of LPG began to gain momentum, as gas became increasingly important for industrial and household use. The modern refrigerated LPG tanker was developed around 1970, and with the introduction of new technology, LPG could be moved in large volumes. This was the time when Maersk Tankers acquired INGE MÆRSK. Maersk Tankers went on to become a leading player within gas shipping until the company sold its gas fleet in 2013. Fast forward to 2023, and we re-entered the gas sector, today providing voyage management services for a growing fleet of more than 30 Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGCs). Looking ahead, we will build further on our legacy of operating gas carriers to offer seaborne transportation of clean ammonia – a crucial transportation service that will aid the energy transition – and made an investment in up to ten Very Large Ammonia Carriers (VLACs). The first four are set to be delivered from late 2026 onwards and we look forward to servicing clean ammonia producers and users in many parts of the world with efficient and safe ships. #maersk #energytransition #gasshipping #cleanammonia Photos: Gert Pedersen

Shipowners and charterers increasingly turn to retrofitting vessels while in operation, according to Frederik Pind, Managing Director of Maersk Tankers’ green tech business Njord. In conversation with TradeWinds, he debunked the notion that retrofits must follow the usual dry-dock cycle. More than half the installations done by Njord in 2023 on more than 40 vessels, using 12 different technologies, were completed during vessel operations. Despite a growing uptake of technologies that do not require dry-docking, only a third of vessels have made any improvements so far. Pind emphasizes the potential for combining technologies to yield significant efficiency gains with a rapid return on investment. He foresees 2024 as “the year of action”, as owners are spurred by a potential impact of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and the European Union’s Emissions Trading System, which penalize inefficient vessels, and the reassessment of RightShip ratings. Njord is a business founded by Maersk Tankers, that works with shipowners and charterers to boost the commercial and environmental performance of their fleet through technology. https://lnkd.in/ddqPv2nZ

Following our recent order for up to 10 Very Large Ammonia Carriers, Maersk Tankers’ Head of Green Vessels and Fuels, Navid Ostadian-Binai, attended the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting at Davos to take part in advocating for concrete action to accelerate the development of clean hydrogen and ammonia economies. In addition to gaining valuable insights, it was encouraging to see attendees’ willingness to share responsibility for driving the energy transition. Our recent conversations with our network of clean ammonia producers and users augur well for a year of increasing commitment towards clean ammonia, including collaborating to accelerate the development of the ammonia dual-fuel engine. #WEF24 #Davos2024 #CleanAmmonia #Hydrogen #Sustainability #CleanFuels #CleanEnergy #GreenHydrogen #GreenShipping #EnergyTransition #GreenEnergy #GreenFuels
