Get up to speed on the developments in ransomware in this SC Media UK article by our very own Kennet Harpsøe 👊
Are Ransomware Groups Really Gone, or Just Biding Their Time? Remember that time when BlackCat filed a complaint to the SEC 🏦 over MeridianLink failing to disclose a breach that they had caused. Its wild, and with NIS2 this phenomenon might be coming to our side of the pond. I wrote an article about this and more, see link below. 🔗 Law enforcement takedowns have hit ransomware groups hard, but are they really down for good? From the fall of QakBot and BlackCat/AlphV to the recent strikes on LockBit and Volt Typhoon, the landscape is changing. But don't be fooled – the Ransomware-as-a-Service (RaaS) market is evolving, not disappearing. With generative AI making it easier for less skilled operators to launch attacks, and new groups like Cactus and Eldorado rising, the threat is far from over. The NCSC warns of increased attack volumes, while Initial Access Brokers (IABs) and falling service costs reshape the market. As the dust settles, the focus shifts back to robust cyber hygiene and proactive defenses. Whether AI democratizes cybercrime or consolidates power in a few hands, one thing is clear: ransomware isn’t going anywhere.
