Time to edit yet again our battery-development chart we often use in our talks about the status of electrifying aviation, since Japanese researchers at Yokohama National University have proven a type of Lithium based battery able to reach 820 Wh/kg without significant decay and substitute more expensive materials with cheaper ones. The goal of reaching a mass-produced battery incl. package at 800 Wh/kg by 2035 looks more and more plausible, a goal where we by then can technically swap out 50% of all fossil fueled flights with electric powered aircrafts. Can we as operators rely enough on the dead-lines set by the aircraft developers, for when they say their aircraft is ready to market, so we as operators and our legislators are ready with for example the needed infrastructure not to soon neither to late ?..
