After a long 18-year wait, finally, fans of the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series have something to be happy about. The latest entry into the series, titled Tokyo Xtreme Racer, the game has debuted on the PC platform via Steam on January 23, 2025. As per Genki, the developers behind this series of video games, they wanted to provide players with an early access phase of the game before releasing the full version. So, as of now, Tokyo Xtreme Racer is available on Steam as an early access title. If you play games on a PC, you can directly join in on the fun, but what if you have a console? Considering that past games in the series have had console ports, you might be wondering whether there is a planned release date for the game on consoles, right? If yes, consider reading our take on this matter, as we have shared everything you need to know about the same.
The console gaming market is like an ocean. As of 2025, the most popular consoles are undoubtedly the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S, along with the Nintendo Switch. However, unlike the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the Switch doesn’t have the required hardware to run most AAA games. Thankfully, Nintendo has announced the Switch 2. Anyway, coming back to the topic, below we have shared everything there’s to know about the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, & Nintendo Switch release date of Tokyo Xtreme Racer.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer PS5, Xbox Series X/S, & Nintendo Switch Release Date: When is it coming out
If you take a look at the platforms on which the previous games in the Tokyo Xtreme Racer were released, you will see that some of them were PC exclusives, while some were also ported to consoles, including the PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360. PC remained the primary platform for these games, with occasional console releases. In addition to this, do note that none of the previous titles were released on the Switch, and that’s because the Switch wasn’t even available back then. The last game in the series was released back in 2007, and the Switch debuted in 2017. A huge 10-year gap. So, the point is that speculating anything regarding the platform support of Tokyo Xtreme Racer right now is going to be a shot in the dark. All we know for now is that the developers have planned a 4-month early access phase for the game and then hopefully, if all goes well, the full release will go live.
So, it is possible that the developers will introduce the game to consoles when it makes its full release debut or maybe a few more months later after its full release. The possibilities are endless. Coming to the platforms that might see the game’s release, it will most likely be the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Given that the hardware of the Switch is dated, we don’t think the developers will be spending resources to overoptimize their game to make it run smoothly on the handheld.
There is also a chance that the game remains PC-exclusive. This will solely depend on how well it is received. 18 years is a long time for a franchise to stay relevant without a release. That said, if the game gets the reception it deserves, we are quite hopeful that the developers will leave no stone unturned to make it available on consoles for more players to access it.
With that said, do note that the information provided here is based on speculation from our side. Except for the announcement of a 4-month early access phase, all information provided is speculated. So, make sure to take it with a pinch of salt. We hope that you find this article informative. If you did, consider visiting DigiStatement for more such interesting reads on all things gaming.
