‘Brotherhood Of The Wolf’

Long unavailable on these shores, Shudder recently acquired the streaming rights to Brotherhood Of The Wolf, a 2001 French-language action-adventure-horror-swashbuckling-martial-arts-romantic-period-drama. Yes, that’s a lot of dashes, but rest assured: This is a LOT of movie (in the best, most maximalist way). Based on a true(ish) story, this movie is set in 18th century France, and revolves around a spate of mysterious, vicious deaths in the French countryside. Who, or WHAT, is committing these savage acts of violence? Is it a man? A beast? Or perhaps something more sinister, like a cult? Or something supernatural, like a lycanthrope? Starring Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel, this imaginative, lush, ultra-cinematic endeavor has got a little something for everyone.
