Whoopi Goldberg may loathe Donald Trump so much she can’t even say his name, but the longtime View co-host seems to hold a near-equal intolerance for his running mate, J.D. Vance. On this morning’s episode of The View, Goldberg directly addressed Vance as she scolded him for his recent comments about the two assassination attempts on Trump.
Goldberg opened the show by saying, “Now we’re gonna talk about some idiotic stuff. The motive behind the gunman arrested in an apparent assassination attempt against the former president is still under investigation, but it hasn’t stopped the Republican candidate and his running mate from putting the blame on President Biden and Vice President Harris.”
She then cut to a clip of Vance delivering remarks at the Faith and Freedom Coalition in Atlanta, where he spoke publicly for the first time since a suspect — who had no current political affiliation but previously made small contributions to Democrats — was apprehended at Trump’s Florida golf course with an AK-47 on Sunday (Sept. 15), per Politico.
“You know the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months,” Vance said. “I’d say that’s pretty strong evidence that the left needs to tone down the rhetoric and needs to cut this crap out.”
The View audience was clearly shocked by Vance’s words, with very audible sounds of disapproval coming from their seats beyond the stage after the clip concluded.
Joy Behar remarked, “The audience is appalled,” while Alyssa Farah Griffin noted, “Literally, jaws were dropping in our audience.”
Goldberg took the opportunity to address Vance directly once more, just days after telling him to “shut up” on the show (and abruptly taking it back). This time, she looked right in the camera as she said, “J.D., clearly you’ve not been to one of your boss’s rallies. Because you believe this insanity. I mean, he has been inciting violence since 2016, telling them to beat up hecklers, threatened to shoot looters and migrants.”
She then told Vance, “You have to really take a look in a mirror to see the reflection. One of the reasons that everybody has survived is because the Secret Service has been doing their job. Let’s start with that. So quit blaming folks until you decide to take a look at what’s coming out of your mouth.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
