Anyone familiar with Jimmy Kimmel Live knows that the show, and its host, regularly pokes fun at politics. So it only makes sense that the guest hosts filling in for Jimmy Kimmel have continued taking shots at Donald Trump and President Biden during their monologues.

But guest host Lamorne Morris appeared surprised to learn that Newsweek asked a spokesperson from Trump’s campaign to address the comments he made about the former president during his recent monologue.

“Last night, I told some jokes about Biden and Kamala [Harris] and Trump and I thought I was pretty fair,” Morris said. “This is not a joke: Today, Newsweek asked a spokesperson for Donald Trump if they had a comment on my comments and that spokesperson wrote back: ‘Who is Lamont Morris?'”

How could they not recognize the name of the Emmy-nominated Fargo star? Were they not binge-watching New Girl like the rest of us during the pandemic?!

To his credit, Morris did not appear upset over the mix-up.

“[I] thought that was pretty good, I thought that was pretty funny,” he admitted as the crowd laughed.

He continued, “Now here’s the thing, I don’t know who Lamont Morris is, but if you think he’s the dude telling all these Trump jokes let’s go with that. I don’t need the smoke.”

Trump’s spokesperson was responding to the jokes Morris made about Harris entering the presidential race after President Biden dropped out this past weekend.

Morris joked that Trump must be “very worried” that the former prosecutor will be his new opponent this election, considering he was recently convicted of falsifying business documents after he covered up hush money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

“I mean, he’s only lost to Joe Biden once, but he loses to lawyers like, twice a week,” he quipped.

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35 ET/PT.
