‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ Sequel Set at Netflix

Is it Halloween yet? Netflix is making it really feel like the spookiest holiday is right around the corner, thanks to the announcement that they’ve snatched up the global rights for Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s latest installment from Legendary Pictures. Leatherface is back, baby!

Along with announcing the acquisition news, Netflix has also teased what stars we can expect from the upcoming horror flick. The film’s cast includes Elsie Fisher of Eighth Grade, Sarah Yarkin of Happy Death Day 2UJacob Latimore of The Maze Runner, and Moe Dunford from Vikings.

Tejano‘s David Blue Garcia directed the horror movie, which was filmed last year in Bulgaria. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is produced by filmmaker Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues via their Bad Hombre production company, as well as Kim Henkel, Ian Henkel, and Pat Cassidy of Exurbia Films, and Legendary Pictures.

The original film, called The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, was released in 1974 and directed by Tobe Hooper. The movie introduced the character of Leatherface, one part of a family of cannibals who has a prominently deformed face, hidden by the skin of his victims. The character has been a recurring figure in the many sequels and prequels in the franchise.

The film reportedly will pick up where Hooper’s film initially left off, bringing one of the most notorious horror stories “back to life in the same bold and provocative manner that it was first introduced to the world,” per The Hollywood Reporter.

Netflix and Legendary have collaborated in the past to release Enola Holmes, the sleuthing Sherlock Holmes-inspired family film starring Millie Bobby Brown. However, there were no chainsaw massacres in that movie. Fingers crossed they throw some in for the sequel.
