EXCLUSIVE: Netflix has signed management/production company 42 to a multi-year, first-look development, financing and production deal for feature films. This comes after 42 collaborated with Netflix on Sand Castle, The Titan and In Darkness in some territories. Upcoming 42 films with Netflix include the Jim Mickle-directed In The Shadow of the Moon which will start production later this year with Boyd Holbrook, whose breakout turn came on the Netflix series Narcos.
Outside of this deal, 42 is working with Netflix on the four-hour animated series adaptation of the Richard Adams novel Watership Down, and the six-part Julian Fellowes series The English Game.
This comes as the latest alliance Netflix has made with feature producers as it finds reliable partners on its broadening production slate. Among its other recent overall deals is pacts with Narcos producer Eric Newman & I, Tonya’s Bryan Unkeless, who joined forces; War Machine producer Ian Bryce, expert at handling large-scale productions; and War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves and his 6th & Idaho banner.
Said Netflix exec Matt Brodlie: “42 have been a great collaborator of ours the past few years. They have a depth of relationships with talent globally and a proven track record of developing and producing quality films. We are excited to be making a more meaningful association with 42 and look forward to bringing more of their films to the Netflix audience globally.”
