Migration has been a defining force in my life. As a migrant myself, and as the daughter and granddaughter of migrants, I’ve experienced firsthand the transformative power of migration while also bearing witness to the profound sacrifices it often entails. This journey has long been a guiding star in my career in international development and in my advocacy pursuits. It is for this reason I am thrilled to announce that I now have the incredible opportunity to serve a cause so close to my heart - through my appointment as an IOM (International Organization for Migration) Youth Changemaker. As part of an inspiring cohort of 10 youth leaders from around the world, I’ll be collaborating closely with IOM - UN Migration and IOM Germany to advocate for critical issues on migration and intersectional sectors. I am truly honored to be entrusted with this responsibility and determined to contribute to IOM’s crucial work in promoting safe, humane, and orderly #migration for the benefit of all. How can we better address the needs of migrants throughout their #resettlement journey? Today, IOM Germany hosted a workshop focusing on linking pre-departure and post-arrival procedures in the context of resettlement and humanitarian admissions. Bringing together refugee experts and experts from IOM - UN Migration and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, government representatives of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Bundesagentur für Arbeit, NGOs, and other stakeholders, we discussed solutions to better support resettled refugees arriving in Germany. The workshop was part of the model Project for Complementary Pre-Integration Measures for Beneficiaries of Protection in Resettlement and Humanitarian Admission Programmes for their Integration in Germany. The project is funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, as well as the Federal Government Commissioner for Anti-Racism, Reem Alabali-Radovan.
