While ammonia has already been used as proven safe and efficient technology for marine refrigeration applications, the future course of the marine industry also embarks on applying it as one of the most promising green fuels and hydrogen energy carriers. Sea, air or land, safety is paramount. When well-designed, ammonia fuels systems achieve the same safety levels as LNG fuel systems, which already power hundreds of ships today. Watch the video and learn more about the future use of ammonia as a clean marine fuel. Ammonia – The green fuel and energy carrier for our future. GEA at Juice Summit 2024: Leading the Way in Sustainability! 🌟 We had an amazing time at the Juice Summit 2024 in Antwerp! Our team members Maarten Gelens, Lucas Hopgood, and George Shepherd joined industry leaders, juice companies, producers, bottlers, and distributors to discuss the future of the juice industry. This year’s big focus was on Sustainability in Packaging, but we also highlighted the importance of sustainable production processes. Our GEA NEXUS team showcased our all-in-one solutions, from consulting with AddBetter to executing projects with our process, heating, and refrigeration teams. Maarten Gelens, Sales Manager Benelux, talked about the growing trend of using natural refrigerants and heat pumps in juice production and storage to cut carbon emissions. He said, "The waste heat of the refrigeration can be used to heat the pasteurizers, CIP and other process equipment to phase out gas boilers. Producers of smoothies and beverages don't know where to start and with the promotion of AddBetter our combined forces of process and utilities become clear to customers." Lucas Hopgood, Senior Director Non-Alcoholic Beverages, shared, "Meeting and discussing with people from the whole supply chain, from farming to production, was valuable and highlighted the collaborative efforts in the fruit juice sector. This event provided a good opportunity to connect and exchange ideas with a diverse group of professionals." George Shepherd, Global Technical Sustainability Manager, added, "It was great to see yet another industry focusing on sustainability. We had some great interactions with global brands on how to improve the sustainability of the juice production process with GEA Heat pumps, pasteurizers and other technologies. It was great to showcase that we have already done this from start to finish with other global brands." We were delighted to share the "juicy" truth about sustainable processes with so many key players at Juice Summit 2024. Here’s to a greener, more sustainable future in the juice industry! 🍊🌿 #JuiceSummit2024 #Sustainability #Innovation #IndustrialHeating

"The #ammonia heat pump technology has significantly reduced our energy consumption. We are saving approximately 2000t of CO2 per year from the heat pumps. It has enabled us to operate in an environmentally responsible manner, while providing customers with high-quality malt at competitive price points." - Robert Wicks, General Manager at Intermalt, Interflour’s malting plant — the largest facility of its kind in Vietnam. Interflour’s close partnership with GEA was originally focused on supplying cooling technology for highly controllable and consistent conditions for germination. And, GEA’s in-depth analysis of the process revealed that the ammonia heat pump solution could help Intermalt significantly increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint. Thanks to GEA’s ammonia heat pump technology, the waste heat from the cooling plant is upgraded and channelled back to heat the air required for the kilning process, which is the stage during which the germinated malt is dried.
