Wilo welcomes 16 new trainees in Dortmund and 14 trainees in Hof! During their first days, the new Wilo employees familiarise themselves with the structures, products, systems and solutions. They will also gain an initial insight into the state-of-the-art production facilities on the Wilopark and meet up for team-building events before starting work in the various departments. With more than 3,600 applications per year and an average length of service of around 15 years, Wilo is one of the most popular employers in Germany. In 2024, the company was once again honoured with the "Top Employer Award". The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) also recognised the Wilo Group's long-standing commitment to competitive sport with the "Top Sports-Friendly Company" award. The new and current trainees include three competitive athletes: two young rowers from the U23 squad of the German men's eight and an athlete from the Borussia Dortmund women's team. With scholarships, internships and many other offers, Wilo gives top athletes the opportunity to build a professional career alongside their sport. 🌊Water Wednesday🌊 Water Backpack PAUL: Providing Clean Drinking Water for 800 Students in Tanzania 🚰 Our Water Backpack PAUL (Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving) is making a significant impact in a remote Maasai village in northern Tanzania. Verena Oberhaus, a dedicated volunteer and a bank employee from Germany, brought the mobile water filter to the village of Mairowa, where it now supplies clean drinking water to approximately 800 students. Mairowa faced the challenge of no electricity or clean water, relying solely on rainwater from a brackish source. Verena discovered PAUL, which operates without electricity and is designed for use in disaster areas. She donated it to the local primary school, ensuring access to clean drinking water during classes. To address the larger issue of water scarcity and food insecurity, Verena initiated a private fundraising campaign, raising €12,000. This enabled the renewal of broken rainwater tanks and the provision of drinking bottles to each child. A PAUL Water Station was also built at the school, and staff received training on filter maintenance. While PAUL serves as a temporary solution, Verena's long-term vision is to build a well for the entire village, supporting livestock farming, cultivation, and school meals. A school garden is also planned, empowering students to be self-sufficient and eliminating hunger during classes. European Water Association (EWA) and DWA Deutsche Vereinigung für Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall at the #Wilopark Raising awareness of #water as an increasingly scarce resource On 20 August, we were able to welcome two exciting guests to Wilopark: Arthur Guischet, Secretary General of the European Water Association (EWA), and Dr. Lisa Broß, Spokesperson for the Management Board of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA). The visit was arranged as part of this year's IFAT in Munich. Oliver Hermes, President and CEO of the Wilo Group, opened the exchange with introductory words on the relevance of a possible European Blue Deal - a topic that has fallen on open ears at both EWA and DWA. A holistic water strategy and its consistent implementation in the form of a Blue Deal would not only better prepare #Europe for increasing water scarcity, but also create the positive narrative that Europe so desperately needs right now. There was agreement that attention to the topic of water must be significantly increased and brought more into the public focus. Together, innovative approaches are to be developed to promote sustainable water management and lay the foundation for future partnerships. This visit underlines our shared commitment to taking effective action for water management in Europe.
