🎉 Happy birthday Johannes Caspar Voith! The father of the #Voith founder was born 251 years ago today on November 5, 1773. Like his ancestors, he was a #locksmith in #Heidenheim, Germany, who ran a workshop. His workshop was the only way he could support himself and his family. 💼 🤵 👰 On October 15, 1779, he married Anna Ursula Moser and lived with her below Hellenstein Castle in a house in Heidenheim. Together they had three children, Johann Matthäus, Johanna Catharina, and Daniel. 👶 👶 👶 The family grew up in the house, which also housed the workshop. The lack of space led Johannes Caspar Voith to look for new premises and in 1822 he found an old disused grinding mill not far away on the River Brenz, which also offered an adjoining apartment. 🌊 The mill already enabled him to use water power for his locksmith's workshop, which was a considerable advantage. ➡️ Johannes Caspar Voith passed away on October 23, 1825 and handed over the workshop to his son Johann Matthäus Voith. He took it over at the age of just 22, not yet knowing that he would turn it into the global Voith Group of today. #History #company

Committed Together for a Safer Future: Youth Protection and Water Rescue! 💪🌊 #Voith is proud to support two remarkable initiatives dedicated to protecting and empowering young people. 👩🏫 Protection and Awareness through the Light House Foundation With support from #VoithCares, the Fundacja Light House in Poland is dedicated to safeguarding young people from human trafficking and cyberbullying. Voith colleague Renata Robles volunteers with the organization, helping to educate youth on these issues. In interactive workshops held in Cieszyn, students learned how cyberbullying often leads to isolation – a vulnerability that traffickers target. Real-life stories like Paweł's, along with personal testimonies from Gerd Hoppe, Vice President of the Light House Foundation, encouraged students to stay vigilant and empowered to protect themselves and others. 🎉Honoring Dedication to Lifesaving Since age 11, Thomas Huber, a product expert in gears at Voith, has been passionately committed to volunteering. Today, he is the Technical Director and instructor for the Youth Rescue Team of the DLRG (German Life Saving Association), passing on his knowledge and enthusiasm for water rescue to the next generation. Thanks to a #VoithCares donation, the youth team recently received essential protective gear for safe rescue work. Through his dedication, Thomas not only contributes to the safety of countless people but also instills responsibility and teamwork in 12- to 17-year-olds. As part of the #VoithCares program, Voith and the Hanns Voith Foundation annually award financial support to a select number of employee-nominated social projects and nonprofits they volunteer for. 🎉 Today, we're taking a moment to remember a pioneering figure in Voith's history, Erhard Closs. Born on January 8, 1859 in Heilbronn and a graduate in mechanical engineering from the Technical University in Stuttgart, Closs joined #Voith on August 15, 1891. His expertise in turbine construction was crucial to the company's growth and success. 💪 Guided by Voith's chief engineer, Adolf Pfarr, Closs was instrumental in overseeing the mechanical speed governor built by Voith at the Lauffen am Neckar power plant. He was a tireless traveler, journeying far and wide to sell turbines, and successfully closing numerous deals both at home and abroad. 🌎 ➡️ Closs helped propel Voith's turbine export business to new heights, a journey that began with the order for the Niagara Falls turbines. On February 2, 1904, his dedication and hard work were recognized when he was appointed to Voith's 1st Board of Directors, overseeing the entire turbine department with Paul Priem and Hermann Gottschick. 🗣️ After a decade of unyielding service, Closs had to retire due to health issues. Today, we honor his memory and his invaluable contribution to Voith. His legacy remains a testament to the power of innovation, commitment, and leadership. 🎓 #History #Engineering #Turbine #Leadership #Innovation

🌐 Digitalization is a core strategic component for #Voith and deeply embedded in our organization. Across various departments, we are continuously developing and implementing digital solutions to optimize our products and processes. One standout example is our strategic purchasing department. Over the past few months, we have built great expertise in this field, working closely with Voith’s internal IT team specialized in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to evaluate and advance promising use cases while gaining valuable hands-on experience. At a recent event hosted by the "Zukunftswerkstatt Einkauf" (Future of Purchasing), Dr. Janina Goldberg, Vice President Purchasing Strategy and Methods, and Matthias Krebs, Head of Purchasing Analytics, shared their experiences regarding AI in purchasing and showcased some of the AI use-cases they are working on. Through leveraging AI, Voith will be able to analyze large data sets, manage contract documents smarter, facilitate cross-divisional purchasing efficiency, and accelerate internationalization. In addition, the department is exploring the use of personalized chatbots to enhance the accessibility of existing purchasing data and further increase efficiency. “We aim to implement an AI toolbox in Voith's strategic purchasing that will help identify cost and volume potentials and conduct complex analyses”, highlights Dr. Janina Goldberg about the future of AI in purchasing at Voith. #DigitalTransformation #ArtificialIntelligence #StrategicPurchasing

Our DHBW students and graduates from #Voith Ravensburg had an exciting team event. The trip took them to Montafon, where they were able to explore the impressive world of Illwerke VKW and the #Kopswerk II pumped storage plant. Fascinated by pumps, turbines and generators, they were also able to enjoy Austrian hospitality during lunch at a mountain hut and recharge their energy to climb the Golm mountain peak, followed by a slide ride in the forest slide park. ⛰🌲 A great day that bonded our team even closer together and immersed everyone in the world of sustainable energy.
