On September 29th we celebrated World Heart Day! ❤️ It is now a known fact that Cardiovascular Diseases are the number 1 cause of deaths all over the world. And while prevention is crucial, here at Virtonomy.io, we believe that advancing treatment is equally important. On this #WorldHeartDay, we reaffirm our commitment to shaping a future where heart disease is treated more effectively and life-saving solutions reach patients faster. 🎯   And this is how we tackle this problem:   ☑ Providing 3D models of underrepresented patient groups to increase device population coverage. 〰 One of our key missions is to extend our database of digital patient twins with 3D models representing underrepresented groups—including women, geriatric patients, those with rare diseases, and pediatric patients. These groups are often overlooked in traditional medical device testing, which can lead to delays in getting the best solutions to those who need them most.   By including a wider range of anatomical models, we're ensuring that cardiovascular devices are better designed, tested, and tailored for every individual—no matter their age, sex, or condition. This means faster innovations, more personalized care, and a step closer to making effective treatments accessible to all.   ☑ Enabling faster time-to-market, bringing innovative devices to patients in a shorter time frame. 〰 With our innovative platform, cardiovascular device developers can virtually implant their devices into these diverse digital models, allowing them to validate and optimize designs before entering costly and time-consuming clinical trials. This approach not only ensures that devices are safe and effective for a wide range of patients but also enables faster time-to-market, bringing innovative devices to patients in a shorter time frame.   📢 So this year we would like to take this opportunity to highlight the importance of making healthcare inclusive, efficient, and accessible. With new technologies such as #digitaltwins and #computersimulations, this is easier than ever, and it is our shared responsibility to prove that every heart matters. 💟 #medtech #digitalhealth #clinicaltrials #virtonomy

With the recent wave of Return-to-Office policies that many companies are adopting, we continue to develop our solutions with a remote-first approach that enables our team to excel from anywhere in the world. 🌍 With team members spread across Germany (Hamburg, Berlin, Munich and Düsseldorf), Portugal, the US, Ukraine, Belgium, and Poland, we’ve embraced a flexible approach that lets our experts work from wherever they feel most productive. This approach goes beyond just flexibility — it's about building a culture of trust, autonomy, and teamwork. We know that great ideas and innovation can come from any location, and giving our team the freedom to choose where they work, we’re encouraging both creativity and productivity. 🌟    To make sure the whole team is on the same page, we use: 🔑 Daily stand-ups – starting our day with a short meeting where team members say what they’re working on helps us align and ask for help or offer assistance; 🔑 Sprint demos – every 2 weeks (end of sprint), each team presents what their focus has been on the previous week to inform other teams; 🔑 Quarterly OKRs – every 3 months, each team presents their goals for the next quarter, which allows us to follow the roadmap and stick to our plans; 🔑 Fun team evenings – the whole team gathers to play a game together, chat, or have an elaborate crime dinner like in the screenshot below. 😎 While we love the flexibility of remote work, we also understand the value of in-person connections. Our Munich office serves as a hub for collaboration, and we regularly bring the entire team together for events like our annual Christmas and spring meetings, along with summer retreats. At Virtonomy, remote-first isn’t just about working from home—it’s about creating a space where our team can connect, grow, and innovate together, whether we’re sitting at a desk in Munich, a café in Lisbon, or a home office space in San Francisco. 💪 #medtech #digitalhealth #medtechstartup #clinicaltrials #remotefirst #companyculture

You are probably already aware that we are specializing in in-silico simulations and offer a huge database of virtual patients you can use for your virtual clinical trials. 🔝   But did you know that as part of our suite of services, we also offer 3D printed anatomical models to complement our virtual models? 🤔 We work with printing partners to deliver you models such as the one in the images, which have been produced for our customers. (Image 1: Right Atrium with Coronary Sinus; Images 2: Aorta and ventricle) These physical prototypes and surgical guides are tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and provide a realistic simulation of cardiovascular structures for medical research and device development. This enables a seamless transition from digital design to tangible, patient-specific devices. How do we do this? There are different varieties you can choose from:   🔶 Material Extrusion – Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)  🔹 How It Works: FDM uses heated filament, drawn through a nozzle to build objects layer by layer.  🔹 Medical Applications: Common for creating surgical models and affordable, patient-specific prosthetics.  🔹 Challenges: Precision is limited by the nozzle size, making it less suitable for highly detailed models.   🔶 Binder Jetting  🔹 How It Works: Powder is bound together by a liquid binder, building the object layer by layer.  🔹 Medical Applications: Ideal for creating complex implants and anatomical models using metals and ceramics.  🔹 Pros: No support structures needed, enabling faster production.   🔶 Stereolithography (SLA)  🔹 How It Works: A laser cures liquid resin to create highly precise, smooth objects.  🔹 Medical Applications: It is used to fabricate patient-specific implantable devices – for example a tailored implant for facial reconstruction. 🔹 Challenges: Less mechanical strength.   🔶 Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)  🔹 How It Works: A laser fuses powder particles, forming strong, durable objects.  🔹 Medical Applications: It can be used for production of physical models for surgeries, prototypes for medical devices, and scaffolds for tissue engineering. 🔹 Challenges: Produces rougher surfaces, often requiring post-processing. ___   Looking back, it’s amazing to see how far this technology has come.   Kristian Debus, our Chief Commercial Officer here at Virtonomy tells us: "At the startup I worked at about 15 years ago, we bought an SLS printer, about as big as a garage, for $500K and spent a year producing almost nothing usable. It’s incredible to see how capable and affordable this technology is now!"  Today, 3D printing technology is not only more affordable but far more advanced, enabling life-saving innovations and transforming patient care around the globe.   If you have any questions, or would like to order a 3D printed model, contact us for pricing and more information. 📥   #MedTech #3DPrinting #PersonalizedHealthcare #Innovation #Virtonomy #digitalhealth #clinicaltrials

Simple Complexity – Tech brought to you by Virtonomy 🗞 Anonymizing Patient Data 🩻   Welcome to our second post for our educational series Simple Complexity, where we make complex medical technologies easy to understand. At Virtonomy, we're passionate about making cutting-edge tech accessible, and today, we're diving into a critical aspect of patient data management: anonymization.   ---   ❓What is Anonymization, and Why is it Important?   In the medical field, protecting patient privacy is paramount. Every time a DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) file is created, it includes sensitive information about the patient, such as their name, age, date of birth, and other identifying details. To safeguard this data, it must be anonymized before it's shared or stored.   Anonymization means altering or removing personal identifiers so that the data can no longer be linked to an individual. This ensures that even if the data is accessed by unauthorized parties, the patient's identity remains protected.   ❓How Does Virtonomy's Anonymization Tool Work?   Our anonymization tool is designed to be both powerful and user-friendly. Here's a breakdown of how it works:   1.  DICOM File Structure:  A DICOM file is structured with tags, each containing specific pieces of information, such as patient's name, medical images, dates, or unique identifiers.   2.  Customizable Anonymization:  When you upload a DICOM file to our platform, you can choose which tags to anonymize. However, certain tags that contain highly sensitive information - like the patient's name, date of birth - are always anonymized automatically. Users cannot deselect these crucial tags to ensure maximum privacy.   3.  Data Replacement:  Once you hit the "Anonymize" button, our tool gets to work. It processes the selected tags, replacing their values with randomly generated data that matches the original format. For instance: -         A patient's name is swapped for a randomly generated one. -         Dates by new dates. -         Numeric values like age, height, and weight are slightly altered.   4.  Data is Anonymized Locally:  Your sensitive information is never transferred to our servers. The anonymization process happens entirely on your side, ensuring that only anonymized data is uploaded to our storage.   5.  Mapping for Traceability:  After anonymization, you have the option to download a mapping of the original unique identifiers to their anonymized versions. This allows you to trace back the data if needed, without compromising patient privacy.   Using our anonymizer, you can confidently share and store medical data, knowing that it complies with privacy regulations and protects patient confidentiality. ✅   Do you want to dive deeper into the technical aspects of DICOM files and how we use them to create our digital twins? 👇👇 Read this article: https://lnkd.in/dNXqxije   #MedTech #DICOM #digitalhealth #digitaltwins #clinicaltrials
