Pioneering Technologies at the Bavarian Energy Research and Innovation Day At the Bavarian Energy Research and Innovation Day, organized by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy, va-Q-tec was honored as one of the winners of the ideas competition "Innovations in Thermal Energy Technology." The event brought together various companies from the energy and energy-saving technology sectors for a valuable exchange. The jury highlighted the importance of insulation in achieving energy reductions. State Secretary Tobias Gotthardt stated, "About half of the total energy demand in Bavaria and Germany is caused by heat supply." World Champion in Baking Bread Maximilian Raisch Relies on Innovative Cooling Technology For over 4 years, more than 1,000 va-Q-trays have been in daily use at the German bakery, Bäckerei & Konditorei Raisch GmbH & Co. KG, transporting cream cakes, snacks, and salads to the branches. Thanks to this technology, the cold chain remains unbroken during the multi-hour delivery routes without refrigerated vehicles, even in the height of summer. Maximilian Raisch, World Champion in Baking Bread and co-managing director, is responsible for the production and is particularly impressed by the significant time savings. Optimized picking with va-Q-trays saves several hours of work every day. The va-Q-trays are compatible with existing basket systems. This improves load securing, increases delivery efficiency, and simplifies cleaning in the existing basket washing systems. Employees also benefit: “The boxes ease the work for the drivers significantly, especially due to their lower weight,” adds Maximilian Raisch. Sustainable Online Grocery Business: Reducing the Environmental Impact of Home Deliveries The Online Grocery Business is growing. In selected European countries, it already accounts for around six percent of total sales (Germany: 2.9 percent). But how sustainable are grocery home deliveries? Transportation to the customer is an important factor in assessing sustainability. With highly insulated transport totes that work on the principle of a thermos flask, e-transporters can now be used for this without active cooling. Dispensing with the usual dry ice used to cool frozen food is also possible. Dry ice is solid CO2, which is energy-intensive to produce. With vacuum-insulated passive totes and e-transporters, grocery home deliveries become more climate-friendly and sustainable. "A climate and environmentally friendly diet depends primarily on the production of food, but also on its transportation to the customer. For home deliveries, we are now making the so-called last mile much more sustainable. Our technology significantly reduces the energy required for transportation and enables the efficient use of e-transporters," says Marc Mölter, Head of Sales Food at va-Q-tec. The result: Conventionally insulated box (right): 🔹 Conventional insulation allows heat exchange between inside and outside temperature. 🔹 Surface temperature of the box corresponds to +4 °C, thus it is shown quite dark in the infrared image 🔹 Only maintains the internal temperature of +4 °C for a short time. 🔹 High energy loss. Vacuum-insulated cool box (left): 🔹 Vacuum insulation interrupts the heat exchange between inside and outside temperature. 🔹 Surface temperature of the box corresponds to the room temperature of +20 °C, thus it is shown brightly in the infrared image. 🔹 Maintains the internal temperature of +4 °C for at least 5 days. 🔹 Low energy loss. While the conventionally insulated box quickly releases its cold into the environment, the vacuum-insulated box maintains the required temperature and minimizes avoidable energy losses. Delivering responsibly to Bakery Stores: A Prime Example The German bakery Bäckerei Peter Schmitt GmbH has been relying on the innovative solution va-Q-tray for years. Every day, 50 branches are supplied with, among other things, frozen dough pieces without the need for refrigerated vehicles. The vacuum-insulated solution keeps the temperature inside the boxes constant for at least 3 hours, ensuring that the legally required cold chain is maintained even at extreme ambient temperatures.
