We are creating Typst to lift typesetting into the 21st century with a fast, easy to learn, collaborative platform that natively runs in your browser. We want to enable our users to focus on their content, instead of their typesetting tool. At the same time, Typst is highly versatile, covering everything from notes or letters to books or research papers.

I've recently tried out Typst and it is a serious competitor to LaTeX. I ❤️ LaTeX, but Typst does everything LaTeX does – and it does it better from what I can see. If you didn't like LaTeX but want to typeset PDF-documents but like Markdown-esque syntax, try it out! Plus: It's open source.

My dissertation is slowly starting to take shape. And guess what: I do not use LaTeX, which is the reason for this post. I just wanted to give a huge shoutout to the Typst developers. Honestly, you are doing very important work. It is a delight to author a complex work with lots of customization in Typst compared to LaTeX! Every author should at least have a look at their free online editor (https://typst.app/). Hopefully, this will become successful enough to be recognized by the large publishers.
