🌍 Excited to Share Insights on Sustainable Business Model Engineering! 🌱 On Tuesday, Sep 3rd, we facilitated an interactive training session with our partners from Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology on Sustainable Business Model Engineering, as part of the International SDG Startup Challenge. The session kicked off with an insightful keynote from Christoph Herrmann covering the foundations, strategies, and levers of sustainability and their impact on business model innovation. Participants then engaged in an interactive card-based business game, supervised by Philipp Grimmel and Mark Mennenga and thankfully provided by BeSu.Solutions GmbH. The workshop helped the participants to explore topics, tools and methods needed to innovate and align their businesses with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It was inspiring to see everyone explore new ways to drive meaningful change while ensuring long-term business success. Im Projekt #DigiPRO2green wird Konstruktion und Design von #Leichtbaustrukturen im Sinne einer #Kreislaufwirtschaft und Optimierung der Prozesse für den Einsatz von #Kunststoffrezyklaten erforscht. Vergangene Woche traf sich das Konsortium zum #Projekttreffen inklusive #Workshops an der #OHLF. Der Tag wurde von Dan Belke, Projektleiter, mit einer Vorstellung der aktuellen Themen und Bedarfe eröffnet, welche für die Weiterentwicklung von "DigiPRO2green" von Bedeutung sind. Auf Basis der zuvor erarbeiteten Konzeptfindungsmatrix wurden von den Projektpartnern diverse Ansätze zu Konstruktionsentwürfen entwickelt, wobei die Anforderungen der Konsortialpartner Berücksichtigung fanden. 🎯 Ein weiteres Themengebiet des Projekttreffens bildete die Erarbeitung von Zieldefinitionen für die zu entwickelnden digitalen Assistenzsysteme. Folglich werden die digitalen Assistenten in der Lage sein, den gesamten Produktentstehungsprozess – von der Planung über die Entwicklung bis hin zur Produktion – a priori zu unterstützen. Im Rahmen des Abgleichs der Use Cases wurden Schnittstellen inklusive Eingangs- und Ausgangsgrößen entlang des Produktentstehungsprozesses erarbeitet. Im Rahmen einer Führung durch das OHLF-Technikum wurde der direkte Bezug zu den projektrelevanten Anlagen hergestellt, um die theoretischen Konzepte im direkten, realen Kontext zu verifizieren. Die Komplexität des Anlagenparks wurde im Anschluss in spezifische Modelle überführt, sodass die digitalen Assistenten ihre zukünftigen Funktionen bestmöglich erfüllen können. 🔋💧 The new Bachelor's programme 'Battery and Hydrogen Technology' will start at #TUBraunschweig in the winter semester 2024/25. With its focus on the key technologies of the energy transition, it complements the engineering study programme of #TUBraunschweig with an independent, sustainability-oriented profile.

 The course, which is based at the Faculty of #MechanicalEngineering, offers students the opportunity to intensively study the fundamentals and applications of innovative energy storage technologies from the very first semester: "Thanks to centres such as the Braunschweig LabFactories for Batteries and more (BLB+), #TUBraunschweig is a leader in battery research. With the H2-Terminal on the research airport campus, a unique infrastructure for #hydrogentechnology is also being created here, enabling research at the highest level. We want to pass on this expertise and the latest research results to our students," says Professor Georg Garnweitner, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. 🔐 In the #HydrogenEscapeRoom laboratory, students can experience and learn about fuel cells. Professor Michael Heere, spokesperson for the course: "An engine test bed at the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines and Fuel Cells (ivb) is currently being converted for the Hydrogen Escape Room. As part of a course, students will be able to experience this laboratory in a completely new way. Woven into an escape room game, students will be able to put their practical knowledge of hydrogen fuel cell operation to the test in small groups." Prospective students have until 15 October 2024 to apply for the Bachelor's programme in Battery and Hydrogen Technology.

Lehrlabor an der OHLF 🔬 ⚗ Studierende des Studiengangs #Maschinenbau der Technischen Universität Braunschweig besuchten letzte Woche die Open Hybrid LabFactory in Wolfsburg, um begleitend zur Theorie im Studienalltag praktische #Forschungserfahrungen in zu sammeln. Das "Lehrlabor" bietet die Möglichkeit, erlangtes Wissen aus der Vorlesung „Fügetechnik“ des Instituts für Füge- und Schweißtechnik (ifs) aktiv zu erfahren und zu vertiefen. Im Rahmen des Lehrlabors durchliefen insgesamt drei Studentengruppen mehrere Forschungsschritte zum Thema Klebstoffe. Dabei waren die Ermittlung von #Topfzeiten, d. h. die Verarbeitungszeit von Klebstoff, bevor er fest wird, sowie die Messung von #Kontaktwinkeln von Flüssigkeiten auf verschiedenen Oberflächen von besonderem Interesse. Zudem wurde die #Klebfestigkeit zweier Klebstoffe mittels Zugscherprüfungen an selbst hergestellten Proben ermittelt. Allen Teilnehmenden, die sich derzeit im Bachelor-Studium befinden, wünschen wir viel Erfolg für die weitere akademische Laufbahn und freuen uns natürlich, sie bei Gelegenheit an der OHLF wiederzusehen. Exciting News from the Institute of Automotive Management and Industrial Production (AIP) - Production and Logistics and the Institute of Machine Tools and Production Technology (IWF)! We want to share our latest research findings on the circular battery production in the EU. In our recent paper, published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology, we integrated prospective life cycle assessment into system dynamics modeling to quantify achievable recycled content and environmental impacts of circular battery production in Europe. Key Findings:  -       Post-consumer battery waste alone may not meet the specified levels of recycled materials due to long battery lifetimes. -       Avoidance of post-production waste results in 9% lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to recycling with 100% recycling efficiency. -       The delay between production and recycling limits the potential for circular production, which significantly depends on market conditions. -       Besides recycling, the industry needs to advance production processes including upstream material extraction and refinement to reduce environmental impacts Find out more in our open access paper: https://lnkd.in/dDder8VM Great collaboration between Raphael Ginster, Steffen Blömeke, Jan-Linus Popien, Christian Scheller, Felipe Cerdas, Christoph Herrmann, Prof. Dr. Thomas S. Last week our doctoral researcher Felix Niemeyer attended the 19th IEEE International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) in Tacoma, Washington. He presented our joint research on the topic: "Pattern-based System of Systems Engineering Approach for Resilient and Sustainable Production Networks - A Review and Framework Proposal," co-authored by Mark Mennenga and Christopher Dormeier. The SoSE conference brought together about 50 international experts from academia and industry and enabled valuable discussions, insightful presentations, and networking opportunities that will support future research collaborations in the area of system of systems engineering. We extend our sincere thanks to Ferat Sahin, Jamison Heard, PhD., and Celal Savur for their excellent organization of the event.
