"When I joined trivago as a Social Media Specialist in 2013 at the Palma office, I had no idea that I would be embarking on one of the most exciting trivago projects. My time at the Palma office was truly unique and meant working both on-site and with colleagues from all over the world. In 2016, I got the opportunity to move to trivago’s headquarters in Düsseldorf, where I fully experienced leadership by creating my own content marketing distribution team and building several projects from scratch. I was lucky to learn from very talented people I still call friends today. trivago is all about change and taking risks, so in 2018, an opportunity to switch over to product management knocked on my door. My first product lead role in “MARS” (Marketing Solutions) was a game-changer in my career. I reconnected with Palma and that opened the door to learn about tech, software engineering cycles, and product development while diving deeper into other marketing topics like TV orders and digital marketing algorithms. That was quite a ride! Leading people in a field of expertise I hadn't worked in before required a lot of trust, communication, and fast-paced self-learning. Becoming a Product Lead for SEO and marketing in 2022 felt like the perfect way to use all the knowledge I had gathered over the past ten years since joining trivago. From an individual contributor in marketing to a lead role in product, I am grateful for every risk trivago took that allowed me to learn and develop. Looking back, I would walk down the same path. "I never considered living and working abroad until nearly two years into the COVID-19 lockdown, when there seemed to be no end in sight while other countries were starting to recover. Life in the Philippines had been comfortable, but as a new father, I began to think about creating a better future for my family. Fortunately, a friend referred me to an open Data Engineer position at trivago, and I was fortunate to be selected for the role. Fast forward nearly three years, and I’m still here, enjoying every moment! My first role at trivago was with the Auction Team, where I contributed by optimizing data and machine learning pipelines, migrating them to Google Cloud Platform, and developing internal tools using Python to accelerate experiment analysis for our Data Scientists. Recently, I transitioned to the Data Foundation team, where I’m excited to provide even more value across the organization. trivago has supported me in many meaningful ways. First, they eased my integration into Germany by guiding me through the complexities of German bureaucracy and offering free German lessons. As a lifelong learner, I’ve also benefited from access to a wide range of software and data engineering books, as well as free subscriptions to Substack newsletters. Finally, as a father of two young children, trivago's hybrid work model has been a perfect fit, allowing me to balance my professional responsibilities while helping care for my family.
