We’ve taught our machines to see like human eyes, and it’s revolutionizing the recycling industry. 💡 How do you recognize if a packaging has been in contact with food? As a human being, you can use your eyes to look for context, as well as shape or size of the packaging. A pizza carton, for example, has a distinct and memorable design, making it easy for us to identify and sort it out of a waste stream. But to achieve efficient automation in recycling facilities, we need machines to do the same. That’s why we have trained our AI-powered technology GAINnext™, using millions of images, providing context to each of them. That’s the idea behind deep learning. With this ability, we can now automate sorting tasks that once required manual effort, enabling recyclers to process larger quantities of materials quickly and efficiently. How is deep learning changing resource recovery as we know it? 💡 The ever-changing composition of waste is a major challenge for sorting systems. With the speed of innovations in the packaging industry, how can machines keep up with the pace of new products and designs, while also bringing sorting to a large scale? 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 is the answer. Deep Learning is a subcategory of AI, and what sets it apart is its 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. Intelligent systems like GAINnext™ can be retrofitted with regular software updates, helping plant operators adapt to new market requirements in real-time. The performance is impressive: GAINnext™ achieves purity levels over 95% when combined with traditional sorters, meeting the stringent European food-grade standards.
