🏆 Congratulations to Rebekka Kirchgässner🏆 – winner of the Dietrich Harder Master’s Thesis Award 2024! The awards ceremony took place recently at the European Congress of Medical Physics (#ECMP). Rebekka’s award-winning master’s thesis, titled “Detection of anatomical changes in an anthropomorphic phantom during carbon-ion radiotherapy by tracking of charged nuclear fragments”, focuses on carbon-ion radiotherapy. This innovative cancer treatment method enables precise and effective destruction of tumor cells through the targeted application of heavy ion beams. Monitoring morphological changes in the patient's anatomy is crucial, as these changes can cause uncertainties in the range of carbon ions. We are always impressed by the ideas of young medical physicists. Die Preisverleihung fand erst kürzlich statt, beim Europäischen Kongress für Medizinphysik (#ECMP). Rebekka Kirchgässner wurde für ihre Masterarbeit mit dem Titel „Detection of anatomical changes in an anthropomorphic phantom during carbon-ion radiotherapy by tracking of charged nuclear fragments“ ausgezeichnet. In ihrer Masterarbeit beschäftigt sich Rebekka Kirchgässner mit der Strahlentherapie mittels Kohlenstoffionen, einer innovativen Form der Krebsbehandlung, die durch die gezielte Anwendung schwerer Ionenstrahlen eine besonders präzise und effektive Zerstörung von Tumorzellen ermöglicht. Da morphologische Veränderungen in der Anatomie des Patienten Unsicherheiten in der Reichweite der Kohlenstoffionen verursachen können, ist deren Überwachung von größter Bedeutung.  Wir sind immer wieder beeindruckt von den Ideen junger Medizinphysikerinnen und Medizinphysiker. Dosimetry in Dortmund: 22 participants from seven different radiotherapy sites in North Rhine-Westphalia attended our two-day course "Small field dosimetry" at the practice of Prof. Dr. Uhlenbrock in Dortmund.
