Unprecedentedly bright quantum light generates high harmonics The research groups of Maria Chekhova and Francesco Tani at MPL have – together with researchers from Canada and Israel – succeeded in generating unprecedentedly bright quantum light and using it for high harmonic generation. This groundbreaking result was now published in @Nature Physics. Learn more about it here 👉 https://lnkd.in/dNE-tEEN #research #MPL #HighHarmonicGeneration #NaturePhysics

We are honoured and delighted to be a part of this film!
Writer | Producer | Collaborator - I tell deep stories about real people that surprise, inspire and change your life.
Delighted that Thomas Riedelsheimer's new film TRACING LIGHT will open DOK Leipzig on 28 October, and thereafter screen in the German competition. "Thomas Riedelsheimer's documentaries are a delightful celebration of light and sound. They sharpen our senses. We are proud to be able to open our festival 20 years after “Touch the Sound” with “Tracing Light."" Christoph Terhechte, DOK Leipzig Festival Director So many people to thank deeply, including all collaborators - Leslie Hills, Stefan Tolz, Nadja Lapcevic, Winnie Brook Young, John Caulkins, the amazing artists and their artwork featuring in the film, including Julie Brook, semiconductor, Brunner/Ritz, Kimchi and Chips with Rosa Menkman, Robert Henke (they know better than to be on LinkedIn) and scientists Daniele Faccio, Sam Nerenberg at University of Glasgow, Pascal del Haye at Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Scottish funders Mark Thomas Dani Carlaw of Screen Scotland, FilmFernsehFonds Bayern, BKM, ZDF 3sat Filmförderungsanstalt, DFFF A production of Filmpunkt and Sonja Henrici Creates in association with Skyline Productions.

How #bacteria actively use passive physics to make #biofilms Prof Vasily Zaburdaev of Max Planck Zentrum für Physik und Medizin, Prof Liraz Chai of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Prof Roberto Kolter of Harvard Medical School researched how bacteria rely on physical processes to form and maintain biofilms, including survival under extreme stress conditions. This work highlights how biophysical interactions play an important role in bacterial life cycles and infection. The researchers recently published their work in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Physics directed towards the medicine of tomorrow: We are still reminiscing about last Friday, September 20th. Around 120 invited guests came together at the new Max-Planck-Zentrum für Physik und Medizin to celebrate the official grand opening. Addresses from the Bavarian Minister President Dr. Markus Söder and the State Ministers Hubert Aiwanger and Markus Blume, as well as a symbolic handing over of the keys 🗝, marked the official handover of the interdisciplinary research center to the scientists. We’ve had numerous guests from politics, science, business and culture, among them FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg President Prof Joachim Hornegger, Prof Anja Boßerhoff, Prof Karin Jacobs, Prof Markus Neurath, Mayor of Erlangen Dr Florian Janik, Max Planck Society Vice President Claudia Felser, Universitätsklinikum Erlangen Medical Director Prof Heinrich Iro, Michael Weinhold, Heinrich von Pierer, Karin Theede, Peter Schardt, Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft e. V. (DPG) President Klaus Richter, Erich R. Reinhardt, Andreas Dorsel and two Nobel Prize winners, Prof Randy Schekman and Prof Stefan Hell. The #MPZPM is an interdisciplinary joint #research center of the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (#MPL), the #uniFAU and the #uniklinikumerlangen. There are five permanent research groups by Prof Jochen Guck, Prof Vahid Sandoghdar, Prof Kristian Franze, Prof Benoit Ladoux and Prof Vasily Zaburdaev, that cover different research areas at the interface of #physics and #medicine. Four of the professors got awarded with a Humboldt professorship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. We are starting the key part in the third large-scale experiment of the #QuNET initiative! QuNET develops highly secure #QKD communication systems with a focus on government communication. The current experiment will connect several users within the Berlin metropolitan region in a quantum-secure manner for the first time beyond pure point-to-point connections. After three weeks of preparation, the experiment will connect the Fraunhofer HHI sites at Einstein- and Salzufer, the Deutsche Telekom, and the Bundesdruckerei-Gruppe sites – spanning a total of 125 km of fiber optic cable and additional free-beam connections through the air. Kicking this phase off with a visit from Daniel Behrendt from BMBF as well as Toni Markurt and Kristian Döbrich from VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, we are looking forward to deliver results that will be an important milestone on the way to secure communication networks in Germany! 📡 Thank you Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung for the funding & support. Read more on the experiment in the ministries’ press release: https://lnkd.in/d9wi4xuU Kudos to experiment coordinator Dr. Nino Walenta and the team of 30 researchers from Fraunhofer HHI, Fraunhofer IOF, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V., Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg!
