We are excited to announce the release of Sir George Benjamin’s opera "Picture a Day Like This", that is now available via Nimbus Records. This recording marks another chapter in our collaboration with George Benjamin and librettist Martin Crimp. From the first note to the final chord, this opera was written with the MCO’s unique "golden" sound in mind, a sound Sir George Benjamin has described as one of the most meaningful collaborations of his life. Join us as we relive the magic captured at the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume.

Anna Prohaska: "The great thing about Ives is his stylistic versatility" (rbb radio3). After Anna Prohaska's and Pierre-Laurent Aimard's inspiring recital this afternoon, we eagerly anticipate sharing the stage with this wonderful soprano for more Ives songs (including "The cage") on Thursday, September 5th, at the Philharmonie Berlin. Join us for a fascinating program: "Seven Songs" by Charles Ives and "Seven Early Songs" by Gustav Mahler, both arranged by Eberhard Kloke, whose Ives-inspired work "The Answered Question" will also premiere that night. Kloke dedicated his "composed interpretation" of the Mahler songs to none other than... Anna Prohaska. Under the baton of Antonello Manacorda, the second half of Thursday's concert will offer another musical perspective on America: Dvořák's 9th Symphony, "From the New World". #MusikfestBerlin #AnnaProhaska #PierreLaurentAimard #PhilharmonieBerlin #askonasholt #AntonelloManacorda #EberhardKloke Photo (c) Marco Borggreve

"This used to be 'my' orchestra!" Internationally acclaimed conductor Antonello Manacorda was the Mahler Chamber Orchestra's co-founder and its first concertmaster when the orchestra was created in 1997. One week from now, at Musikfest Berlin, he will conduct the MCO in a very special concert featuring songs for soprano and orchestra by Charles Ives and Gustav Mahler, together with award-winning singer Anna Prohaska. Also on the program: The 'Unanswered Question' by Eberhard Kloke, and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9. Open your ears and enjoy this encounter at the Philharmonie Berlin on Thursday 5 September 2024 at 8 pm! #antonellomanacorda #annaprohaska #forartistsberlin #musikfestberlin #philharmonieberlin

We start our next tour, NEW WORLDS, at Musikfest Berlin on 5 September 2024 – together with two Opus Klassik winners of 2024! Antonello Manacorda, co-founder of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, and its first concertmaster, will conduct a program featuring songs by Charles Ives and Gustav Mahler, arranged for soprano and orchestra by Eberhard Kloke. The Mahler songs are dedicated to internationally acclaimed soprano Anna Prohaska, who to our joy will perform them with us that evening. The program will conclude with Antonín Dvořák's America-inspired 9th Symphony. Join us at Philharmonie Berlin for this concert, which is generously supported by the Aventis Foundation and Funk Stiftung. #MusikfestBerlin #AnnaProhaska #EberhardKloke #AntonelloManacorda #opusklassik photos: (c) Marco Borggreve (Prohaska), Thomas Rabsch (Manacorda)

What a glorious final LFO concert with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Beatrice Rana last Saturday! Our MCO musicians have left Lucerne – but not for long: We will be back at the KKL, together with Antonello Manacorda (conductor) and Anna Prohaska (soprano), on 9 September. Join us for Gustav Mahler's "Seven Early Songs," Ferruccio Busoni’s "Berceuse élégiaque," and Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony "From the New World"! #nezetseguin #BeatriceRana #AntonelloManacorda #lucernefestival #annaprohaska Photo: (c) Peter Fischli / Lucerne Festival

Tomorrow marks the final day of our MCO musicians’ Lucerne Festival Orchestra tour, featuring Clara Schumann's (née Wieck) Piano Concerto. This remarkable piece will be performed by Beatrice Rana and conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin; together they recorded it in 2023 for Warner. Clara Wieck, one of the finest pianists of her time, wrote her concerto between the ages of 13 and 14. She premiered it herself at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig in 1833. Interestingly, the concerto is set in A minor, the same key as her husband Robert Schumann’s own Piano Concerto, which he composed eight years later. We are happy to share this special performance with you! #LucerneFestival #BeatriceRana #ClaraSchumann #WarnerClassics Photo: (c) Simon Fowler

"As if by magic, the artist created suspended, almost surrealistic sound worlds," was the comment in "Der Standard" when Russian shooting star #AlexanderMalofeev performed Rachmaninoff’s First Piano Concerto at the Vienna Musikverein in 2021. Tomorrow, on Tuesday 20 August, you can enjoy an all-Rachmaninoff evening at the fourth Lucerne Festival Orchestra (LFO) concert of this summer's festival period. As always, a large number of MCO members forms the core of the LFO. Can't make it to Lucerne? This concert will also be streamed live on ARTE. #LucerneFestival #Rachmaninoff #MahlerChamberOrchestra #ARTEconcert Photo: (c) Kseniya Zaseczkaya

Tonight’s the night! Join the MCO musicians at the Lucerne Festival for our opening concert with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, conducted by its music director, Riccardo Chailly. On the program: Gustav Mahler’s 7th Symphony, popularly called “Song of the night”. Lucerne is just a bit too far for from your home? The concert will also be available on ARTE Concert starting on 19 August. Watch, listen and enjoy! Photo: (c) Lucerne Festival

On August 17, join the Lucerne Festival Orchestra for a Nordic musical journey with Klaus Mäkelä and our long-time musical partner and friend Leif Ove Andsnes! Since its inception in 2003, the core of the LFO has been formed by MCO members, and as always, we are thrilled to be back! We’re also excited to announce that Leif Ove Andsnes will be joining us again in March 2025 during Musikwoche Hitzacker—MCO’s “own” festival in northern Germany—and on our subsequent tour to Luxembourg, Brussels, and London. We look forward to connecting with you there next spring! #LucerneFestival #KlausMäkelä #LeifOveAndsnes #musikwochehitzacker
