Hot news! ♨️ Today, we unveiled plans for expanding the district heating network into northern Hamburg with Hamburger Senat, Hamburg Innovativ, Hamburger Energiewerke GmbH and Hamburg Airport. As an anchor customer for sustainable heat supply, we’re excited to partner in this crucial development for our city. Dr. William Willms, CFO of Lufthansa Technik AG, stated: “With Hamburg’s district heating, we will be able to immediately reduce our heating-related emissions by two-thirds and will soon heat our hangars and facilities CO₂-neutrally. This is a major investment in our headquarters and, as the city’s largest district heating customer, we are proud to contribute to Hamburg’s climate-neutral future.” To achieve CO₂-neutrality, we are prioritizing enhanced energy and heat efficiency, green electricity, and a sustainable heat supply at our site in Hamburg. Connecting to the district heating network is a key factor in this strategy, as approximately 45% of our CO₂ emissions are currently related to heating. Our goal is to achieve a net-zero CO₂ balance at our headquarters by 2045. Transformation is a chance and we are eager to take it! 🙌💚 #makechangefly

Turtles and sharks flying together: All Nippon Airways (ANA), renowned for its “FLYING HONU” turtle-themed Airbus A380s, has just welcomed another marine-life-inspired aircraft: Its 1st Boeing 777 equipped with our #AeroSHARK. The revolutionary surface technology we jointly developed with BASF is inspired by shark skin, reduces drag, and enhances an aircraft’s fuel efficiency. ANA is the first individual airline to operate both passenger and freighter variants of the Boeing 777 with this innovation. The first modified Boeing 777F (JA771F) began scheduled cargo flights today, and ANA plans to extend the use of AeroSHARK to a passenger aircraft (JA796A) by next spring. Although the riblet modification is almost invisible, it is expected to deliver significant fuel and emissions savings. On ANA’s Boeing 777s, nearly the entire fuselage is covered with the sharkskin-inspired film, resulting in estimated annual savings of approximately 250 metric tons of fuel and 800 metric tons of CO2 for each aircraft. “Drawing inspiration from nature is deeply rooted in Japanese arts and culture. Therefore, what airline could be a better fit for our nature-inspired AeroSHARK than the world-famous ‘Inspiration of Japan’?” said Dennis Kohr, Senior Vice President Corporate Sales Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Technik. “We are delighted to extend our long-lasting and fruitful cooperation with All Nippon Airways onto a proven solution to reduce their carbon footprint. I am confident that AeroSHARK will support ANA in becoming an ever-greener ‘Inspiration of Japan’.” #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik #InspirationOfJapan #FlyANA Image copyright: ANA

A small switch with a big impact! 💡 The LED retrofit at our Hamburg location - our largest site, responsible for about 50 % of our CO₂ emissions - is just one of many steps we're taking to make our own facilities more eco-friendly and reduce our carbon footprint.    Project highlights (pun intended!):  🔄 We're replacing old fluorescent lights with energy-efficient LEDs in 23 production halls, seven hangars, 14 office buildings and two cafeterias. So far, we've upgraded 20,000 light points, covering 25 % of our site.    📉 In one engine shop, this change will save 600,000 kWh of electricity and reduce 200 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually.     😊 Beyond energy savings, LED lighting offers better light quality and less blue light exposure, which further enhances comfort and productivity for our team. This project is just one of many initiatives as we work towards our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2045 in Hamburg. In many other facilities around the world, there are additional projects focused on increasing sustainability in our operations. ✈️💚 #makechangefly

Scaling up efficiency: We proudly welcome EVA Airways Corp. as the first Asian airline to sign up for the drag-reducing and thus fuel-saving #AeroSHARK we jointly developed with BASF. The renowned airline recently decided to have its entire Boeing #777F freighter fleet modified with our sharkskin-inspired riblet films covering several hundred square meters of each aircraft’s fuselage and engine nacelles. Fuel consumption and emissions will thus be reduced by around one percent. Once all of EVA Air’s nine 777Fs are modified this way, this will amount to annual savings of over 2,500 metric tons of jet fuel and more than 7,800 metric tons of CO2 emissions. With B-16786, a first EVA Air freighter has already undergone this comprehensive modification at the airline’s homebase at Taipei Taoyuan International Airport. Closely guided by our experts, the modification was executed by EVA Air's affiliate, Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corp. (EGAT). The aircraft is expected to re-enter commercial service in early September. “EVA Air is continually progressing towards its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, constantly seeking the latest technologies to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Albert Liao, Executive Vice President Corporate Planning Division. “We are delighted to collaborate with Lufthansa Technik in applying the fuel-saving AeroSHARK surface technology to our 777F freighters. This innovation not only reduces fuel consumption but also lowers CO2 emissions. EVA Air will continuously monitor the actual fuel-saving benefits and further evaluate additional aircraft to be equipped with this technology.” “EVA Air is well known for both its pioneering spirit and its technical expertise, hence we are all the more pleased that we succeeded in convincing them about the benefits of AeroSHARK, the world’s most advanced sharkskin product for the commercial aviation industry,” said our Dr. Wassef Ayadi. “We are proud that with AeroSHARK we can provide international pioneers like EVA Air with a real quick-win measure to reduce the environmental footprint of their operations.” #keepyouflying #lufthansatechnik 🦈 #iflyEVA

Our #TourdeTechnik team met pro cyclist Rick Zabel, who has often described himself as "the worst mechanic in the world". This is why we invited him to meet some of the best mechanics in the world 😉⚒️ In our engine shop in Frankfurt we provide maintenance for 18 different engine types. Today, our team accepts the challenge with the pro who coaches them on the 4th, quite hilly stage 🚴💨 #Lufthansatechnik #cycling #keepyouflying #excellenceinmotion
