The Institute for Particle Technology is part of the TU Braunschweig and deals with modern issues of particle technology and mechanical process engineering in research, teaching and further education. It is divided into five research areas: 🔋 Battery Process Engineering 🔬 Nanomaterials 💻 Particle Simulation and Functional Structures 💊 Pharma and Bioparticle Engineering 🔩 Powder and Slurry Processes. More than 120 people work at the institute: 2 professors, 1 junior professor, >15 PostDocs, >75 scientific staff and >20 technical and administrative staff. In addition, we network our internal research competences in interdisciplinary expert groups. It's called "Tuning the Properties of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles in Thermal Decomposition Synthesis". This study looks closely at how things like reaction temperature, ligand length, and concentration affect the properties of iron oxide nanoparticles - key for applications in biomedical diagnostics, environmental remediation, and data storage. This study presents a coupled CFD-DEM framework to model wet stirred media mills, utilizing an immersed boundary methodology for stirrer rotation and a hydrodynamic lubrication force to model fluid interactions between grinding bead surfaces. Our findings reveal significant insights into model considerations and the influence of process parameters on system behavior, essential for optimizing mill operations in the context of virtual process engineering.
