Lots of interested visitors at IBU-tec Weimar! Last Friday, 30 doctoral students from Technische Universität Dresden took the opportunity to get to know IBU-tec, our processes and products. We were delighted to welcome Professor Kaskel Stefan and his scientists, as we have maintained good relations with the university's chemistry faculty for many years. Employing numerous alumni, even our Head of R&D, Dr. Karl Wegner, completed his doctorate at TU Dresden. We have started a cooperation with the team surrounding Prof. Dr. Martin Oschatz at Friedrich Schiller University Jena! IBUvolt's Sanjay Mattaparthi will work as a guest scientist on the development of NMO electrodes in order to optimize the manufacturing process. In Jena, the electrodes will then be electrochemically tested in combination with Prof. Oschatz's own anode materials (hard carbon) in sodium-ion batteries. This is a milestone for our IBUvolt NMO, which will help us enormously to characterize the material in depth and to further understand and improve its electrochemical behaviour! Prof. Oschatz's team at the Faculty of Chemistry and Earth Sciences specializes in materials research on sodium, with a clear focus on the anode side. New equipment for our technical lab! A powerful new disperser to create slurries of fine powders in water. Welcome to the IBU-tec team! Four new apprentices have started their journey into a career in the chemical industry this week, on their way to become lab technicians and chemical plant operators.   In their apprenticeship, laboratory technician trainees learn all the steps required to prepare and carry out chemical tests. They learn to analyze materials and work with chemical substances that are used, for example, for the development of battery materials in electric cars.   During their training to become chemical technicians, our trainees will learn how to work with industrial equipment such as pulsation reactors and rotary kilns, how high-quality material is produced from raw materials, how to operate equipment and control a production process.   At IBU-tec, we are proud to be able to offer various apprenticeship-positions to youths, and train qualified personnel for our companies future in the process. Kick-off for a new research project - ENTISE, short for the development of sodium-ion technology for industrially scalable energy storage. The aim is to develop a high-performance, cost-effective and environmentally friendly cell chemistry for sodium-ion batteries as an industrially feasible solution. IBU-tec will provide valuable know-how for increasing the storage capacity and cycle stability of the cathodes - a key component. We will also provide the reference cathode materials for LFP and NMO and scale the production of the most promising materials. Stay tuned for how this project develops!
