📅 Events Sport meets architecture: successful teamwork in Leipzig 👏 HPPy team The colleagues from our Leipzig office are considered HPP's best table football players and demonstrated their talent at a table football tournament in the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Out of a total of 12 teams, HPP Leipzig was represented by four teams and not only won first place, but also a new foosball table for the office. 🏗️ Adaptive Reuse Lecture Before the sporting part of the event, HPP Partner and Head of the Leipzig office Sebastian Helm contributed his expertise. In a lecture on the transformation of the town hall in Marl, an icon of post-war modernism, he discussed the approaches of the past and present in the context of political discussions and the practical challenges of dealing with such a listed building. Our planning focusses on a sensible subsequent use of the project, which makes it possible to preserve the existing building substance as far as possible. 💚 Many thanks to the entire Heinze GmbH / Heinze ArchitekTOUR 2024 team, who organised both events! This year's event series is all about refurbishment, sustainable construction and building with wood. 🏆 AWARD Our ‘LEON 11’ project, for which we were commissioned by PAMERA, will be completed in Munich by 2025 - an inner-city conversion of a former hotel from the 1980s into a modern residential building with 37 flats. The project was recently honoured with the Iconic Award 2024 in the ‘Innovative Architecture Residential Building’ category, presented by the German Design Council. 🏗 Adaptive Reuse Once completed, LEON 11 will be an eye-catcher in the cityscape thanks to its elaborate façade design. The high design standard of the façade is more reminiscent of a new building, but LEON 11 is a core refurbishment with the addition of two storeys. The project is about responsible, sustainable building. The conscious decision to use the substance of the existing building instead of demolishing the former hotel avoids grey energy and significantly reduces CO2 emissions: 1.6 million kWh will be saved - equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 200 people. 💚 A big thank you to our client, PAMERA Real Estate Partners GmbH, who commissioned us to redesign and convert this existing building. The realisation of such an innovative residential building is only possible with an innovative client who is open to sustainability issues, but at the same time sets high standards in terms of design. 🚣♀️HPPy ROWING At the end of the summer it was time for HPP to head out on the water again! A total of 104 teams took part in the eighth 'Düsseldorf am Ruder für Menschen mit Krebs' charity regatta - and this time HPP was represented with two rowing boats. The biggest challenge was the strong wind, which didn't make it easy to complete the 250 metre course in Düsseldorf's Media Harbour. But our team spirit brought us to the finish line again this year. We were pleased with two good results - 3rd and 10th place - and we are already looking forward to next year's event! Together with PAMERA Real Estate Partners GmbH and all project partners, we are delighted to have received the Iconic Award 2024 in the 'Innovative Architecture Wohngebäude' category for our project LEON11. With the conversion of the former hotel into a modern residential building in the centre of Munich, we are setting an example for responsible construction in existing buildings. The refurbishment avoids grey energy and minimises environmental impact, while preserving the history of the site.

Many thanks, Timber Pioneer, for the great contribution to the New Medical Clinic in Tübingen - a very special project for us that focuses on people's health and well-being and emphasises the concept of sustainability through its materials and construction.
🌿🏥🌳 Architecture with health benefits 🌿🏥🌳 The New Medical Clinic (NMK) in Tübingen combines Scandinavian timber construction expertise with architecture that puts people first. Its wholly sustainable concept was designed by White Arkitekter and HPP Architekten GmbH. Spanning three storeys, the timber trusses in this building do more than just bear loads. In fact, their natural finish dovetails perfectly with the wooden furniture – in rooms that are bathed in natural light. A comfortable bench is positioned along the large glass façade, with the oblique glulam beams serving as a functional backrest. Looking outside, you have sweeping views across the city of Tübingen, all the way to the Swabian Alps. This may sound like a concept for a new wellness hotel, but it is actually the design for the New Medical Clinic in Tübingen. White Arkitekter and HPP Architekten were awarded the contract for building the new clinic, with their concept based on a healing and sustainable environment. This concept centres on the building’s sustainable design and operation, as well as on the positive impact that the architecture has on people. The medical term that is often used in this context is salutogenesis, which was coined by sociologist Aaron Antonovsky and refers to the study of the origins of health. Back in the 1970s, he put forward this way of thinking as complementary to pathogenesis, which describes the causes and development of diseases. The natural wooden surfaces in the clinic’s nursing area help to create an environment that diverse studies have shown to have a positive effect on human health. As well as this, the architects’ design puts people and nature centre stage, providing a meaningful narrative which – according to Antonovsky – is one of the factors that improve people’s well-being. This means that the architecture should provide the ideal conditions for health to flourish – and not just the health of patients but of staff as well. Swedish architectural firm White Arkitekter has made a name for itself in timber construction and healthcare facility design, with high-calibre projects in both areas. As in-house health architecture expert Charlotte Ruben Nyström explains: “Our focus is on creating healing environments that reduce stress, strengthen mobility and help people to recover.” At the heart of the clinic is a spacious atrium. A sculptural wooden stairway allows people to walk between the individual storeys and, as the jury’s appraisal puts it, “forms an important orientation point for patients and visitors alike”. This is because user-friendly and welcoming design is vital in such a large healthcare institution... Thank you, Heinze GmbH, so much for this wonderful and comprehensive contribution to our projects. We are very happy!
The Cradle, Düsseldorf | 2023 “The Cradle”, inspiriert vom Cradle-to-Cradle®-Prinzip, ist Düsseldorfs erstes Bürogebäude in Holzhybrid-Bauweise. 📷 1 | 2 | 4 | 6 ralph richter; 3 Klaus Polkowski; 5 HGEsch

🏆 AWARD Last year, we had the pleasure of presenting our exhibition "Re/View the Next: A Discursive Collage on Aims, Challenges and Innovations" for six weeks at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin. The walk-in, expansive collage, which showed a cross-section of our architectural spectrum, was a heart project for us - and has now been honored with the red dot design award! 🏗 Tangible Architectural Discourse The exhibition sculpture unfolded with great ease up to a height of five meters above both existing room volumes of the architecture gallery. As a discursive collage, it light-heartedly illustrated the diversity of HPP's constantly evolving design practice and invited visitors to discover it. The cross-generational and current engagement of our office with strategies for the future was thus expressed in both form and content - tangibly for each of the almost 4,000 visitors. 💚 We are delighted that our exhibition in the "Brand & Communication Design" category has now been recognized with the red dot design award for the spatial design! Many thanks to the fantastic team consisting of Morphoria, Aedes Architecture Forum, Francesca Ferguson, Wandelt Berlin and of course everyone involved in our HPPy team! ♻ By the way, the exhibition sculpture was designed as a system of plug-in panels and can therefore be completely dismantled without damage. Reuse possible - stay tuned! ✔ PROJECT PROGRESS The residential quarter at Zollhafen Mainz gives a new meaning to ‘living by the water’: it is surrounded by water and embedded in the urban ambience of the harbour island at Zollhafen. The outdoor facilities are not quite finished yet, but we are already giving an insight into two buildings planned by HPP. 🏗 Urban Transitions Back in 2020, we were commissioned by project developer Trei Real Estate GmbH as architects and general planners for the Hafeninsel II (Fischerhof) and III (Lotsenhof) residential ensemble after winning a competition. The two six-storey buildings, each grouped around a green inner courtyard, contain 183 flats on a living space of 13,200 square metres. Artificially created canals emphasise the maritime flair of the residential district. 💚 We are looking forward to the completion of the outdoor facilities and the fact that the new city quarter on the former Mainz customs harbour will be enlivened by a further building block in the future.
