This year, companies began actively preparing for the upcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Amid uncertainties caused by new amendments that surfaced late in the year, many companies had to continue working to understand their obligations and find compliance solutions. Throughout 2024, we have been providing guidance to support businesses to ease their compliance journeys. FSC Certification ensures they are well-positioned for compliance, and the add-on solutions we launched this year are specifically designed to align with EUDR requirements. This work will remain a priority for us in 2025. With FSC’s Community and Family Forests Toolbox, they manage forests responsibly - fostering resilient ecosystems and sustainable livelihoods. This year, we have witnessed incredible achievements from smallholders around the world. They are making a big impact on our forests and communities in Ecuador, where Aglomerados Cotopaxi leads sustainable forest management, preserving biodiversity and supporting local livelihoods. In Eastern Uganda, the restoration of the West Bugwe Central Forest Reserve showcases the power of collaboration, revitalizing ecosystems and supporting communities under the FSC certification. Global brands are showing up for our forests and we see it. This year FSC Forest Week, our annual consumer-focused, business-driven campaign, resonated with millions. It reaffirmed the opportunity organizations, brands, and retailers have in driving individual action for our planet. The 2024 campaign provided a platform to share the everyday actions we’re all taking to protect forests, ultimately contributing to their ability to combat the climate and biodiversity crises. With two CoPs down and one to be finalized this week, it's clear that while government negotiations show incremental progress, the real momentum for change lies with businesses and civil society. As we continue to reflect on 2024 highlights, we are proud to wrap up this year with yet another milestone: the First FSC-Certified Capsule Collection.   Created with designer Vickie Au and presented at CENTRESTAGE in Hong Kong this October, it is made entirely from FSC-certified materials, and under the theme ‘From Deforestation to Coexistence with Forests’, it highlights the importance of sustainable sourcing in fashion.   The collection is part of our broader initiative, the ‘Fashion Forever Green Pact,’ which aims to offer alternatives to fossil fuels-based fashion. FSC Launches Initiative to Improve Workplace Culture in North America’s Forestry. Through a partnership with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Canada, Forest Stewardship Council U.S., Forest Stewardship Council (International) and the Free to Grow in Forestry / Foresterie en croissance libre Movement, we are pleased to announce an initiative on improving workplace culture in North America’s forestry sector. In alignment with the FSC Strategic Framework on Diversity and Gender (2022-26), and furthering the foundational efforts of the Free to Grow in Forestry Movement, the co-leadership of FSC Canada, FSC US and FSC International, a North American Council comprised of FSC economic, Indigenous, environment and social chambers, and the International Forest Students Association (IFSA), are now working collaboratively to lead the sector toward strengthening their workplace culture for the betterment of all people. As we approach the end of the year, we want to celebrate our collective achievements as a global organization of forest stewards. Together with our network and partners, we have worked to protect and conserve what lies at the core of our mission - biodiversity in the world’s forests. Take a look at the key positive impacts that responsible forest stewardship has had on biodiversity in 2024! 🐘 FSC-certified forests in Gabon and the Republic of Congo support more large mammals, including endangered species, than non-certified forests. 🌳 In Poland, the updated FSC Standard prioritizes the protection of rare ecosystems and old-growth forests, supporting biodiversity hotspots and iconic species like the European bison and brown bear. 🌱 The Fast-Tracking Biodiversity Assessment, led in collaboration with @WWF and @IKEA, shows FSC certification’s positive impact, from protecting over 300 threatened species in Brazil to setting aside 460% more area for forest conservation than required by law in Finland. These efforts highlight the critical role of sustainable forestry in protecting biodiversity.
