The presentation of the poster awards was a wonderful conclusion of our first CIMD Symposium on "RNA-Based Therapeutics." 🥳 Congratulations to the three poster award winners 🥳: 🏆Elisa Mohr: “Cardiovascular diseases in 3D: Human organoids as a multipurpose tool to recapitulate cardiac pathophysiology in vitro” 🏆Philipp Höhne: “Superparamagnetic nanoparticles as cardiac-targeted delivery tools for ncRNA therapeutics” 🏆Clara Gebhardt: “Optimizing and scaling up mRNA-based CAR-T cell generation using lipid nanoparticles” Your dedication and groundbreaking work are shaping the future of RNA-based therapeutics. Elisa Mohr and Christian Bär, we are thrilled that you are advancing the critically important topic of #organoid development with us here at Fraunhofer ITEM (⬆️ poster prize above). The development of #3D human cardiac organoid (#hCO) models constitute a significant advancement in cardiovascular research. By combining multiple cell types such as cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts and endothelial cells, the hCO mimics the human heart's complexity and function, offering a valuable tool for studying heart diseases and testing new drugs in a more relevant environment. This is especially important as cardiovascular diseases are expected to rise in the coming years, demanding reliable In-vitro models for drug discovery and development. We can’t wait to see what’s next 💪! A big thank you to all supporters and contributors! #RNAresearch #RNAtherapeutics #CardiacOrganoids #DiseaseModelling #DrugDiscovery

Exciting updates from the #ZeroPM project! Last week at the ZeroPM Workshop "Achieving Zero Pollution of Persistent and Mobile Substances: Prioritization through Substance Grouping and Risk Assessment" in Dessau, Fraunhofer scientists contributed valuable insights towards regulating persistent and mobile compounds. Abishek Laxmanan Ravi Shankar presented #PBKmodeling approaches to estimate human thresholds for these substances, while Dr. Sylvia. Escher introduced a risk matrix that integrates #exposure and #toxicity data into the prioritization process. This workshop facilitated a lively exchange of ideas between scientists, regulatory authorities, and industry stakeholders. A great milestone in translating research into action! 💡 🚰 In the second ZeroPM workshop, experts discussed prioritization strategies for preventing and removing PMT/vPvM substances, with a special focus on human exposure via drinking water. Key speakers from UBA, ECHA, the European Commission, and innovators presented alongside ZeroPM researchers to address the challenges of substance prioritization. #ZeroPM is committed to developing a science-driven, multi-stakeholder framework to advance the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS), targeting a toxic-free environment. The project partners are working to prevent the negative impacts of PMT/vPvM substances, like mobile #PFAS, while fostering innovation for a safer society. 🌍 #riskassessment #zeropollution

🎉Congratulations to Charline Sommer & Maximilian Schinke – both were awarded the Young Scientist Travel Award #YSTA at the #EUSAAT Congress last week🎉. 🏆Maximilian received the award for his presentation titled 'Generation of Human Sensory Macrophages to Replace Animal Research in Preclinical Pharmacology and Drug Safety Applications' – a very exciting and new topic for us at Fraunhofer ITEM: 💡The use of innovative macrophages derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (#iPSC) represents a promising approach to evaluate new therapeutic strategies and conduct a comprehensive #safetyassessment of parenteral drugs. Particularly regarding this safety assessment, we could provide a promising alternative that significantly advances the Monocyte Activation Test (#MAT), making the use of rabbits or horseshoe crabs in the field of parenteral drugs unnecessary. 🏆Charline was awarded for the abstract of her poster, developed in the context of the imSAVAR project, on 'Immune-related adverse outcome pathways' (irAOPs), and this is what it was about: 💡 Immune therapies are promising but are associated with side effects – often with unresolved pathophysiological mechanisms. The #irAOP concept helps to focus on key cells and molecules inducing the adverse effects and uncovers knowledge gaps in the immunological cascade. This allows targeted generation of experiments to fill gaps and verify the irAOPs, supporting safe application of #immunetherapies. #verywelldeserved
