Our partners had a blast at European Microwave Week! As we transition to #6G, it is crucial to research & design terahertz transmission sources that offer high signal quality and cover a broad frequency range. To achieve this, we are combining #opticaltechnologies with electronics in the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung funded 6G-ADLANTIK project. Project coordinator Rohde & Schwarz presented key components from the project’s state-of-the-art #Thzresearch at the European Microwave Week in Paris. Even beyond 6G, these components will find application in data transmission and imaging. Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/dyYie4VQ Kudos to our partners TOPTICA Photonics, Microwave Photonics GmbH, Technische Universität Berlin & Spinner GmbH!

We had a blast hosting the last day of Photonica Summer School 2024! Photonica Summer School gave 20 young, international BSc and MSc students the chance to spend a week gaining insights into five Fraunhofer Institutes. The aim was to give a deep insight into the #photonics topics of the institutes and the possibility of a doctorate. The Group traveled from Braunschweig to Berlin via Jena and Dresden. At Fraunhofer HHI, our executive director Prof. Martin Schell welcomed the summer school participants. Afterwards they got an overview of our latest work with InP monolithic integration & HF as well as Terahertz & Hybrid Photonic Integrated Circuits technologies. Furthermore, they learned about our F5GOpenLab project that develops solutions for Green ICT & free space optics for satellites. Lastly, we offered four different lab tours to see our research in action. We finished the day with fostering connections. At a speed-dating event, we invited participants to chat with potential future colleagues and further explore areas of interest. The afternoon's discussions were continued on a relaxed boat trip along the Spree in beautiful weather and with a wonderful BBQ. Thank you to Joachim Dr. Giesekus who organized the Fraunhofer HHI activities as well as all our colleagues who lent their expertise: Mihail Balanici, Dr. David de Felipe Mesquida, Dr. Robert Kohlhaas, Juan Moreno Morrone, Dr. Nicolas Perlot, Tianwen Qian, Axel Schönau, Garrit Schwanke, Massimiliano Sica and Philipp Winklhofer. Kudos to the Fraunhofer Group for Light & Surfaces under the direction of Fraunhofer IPM for organizing Photonica Summer School 2024 as well as all our partner institutes Fraunhofer IWS, Fraunhofer FEP, Fraunhofer IOF and Fraunhofer IST. 📣 Our expert Paul Chojecki has been invited to speak at the World Congress on Rett Syndrome (rettworldcongress.org). On Oct 3, he will share results from our project #TeMoRett (Technology-Assisted Motor Rehabilitation for People with Rett Syndrome). #Rettsyndrome is a rare genetic disorder predominantly affecting girls and women. It manifests itself primarily in cognitive deficits and movement disorders of the hands. The TeMoRett team uses #XR and #AI to develop innovative treatment methods. They are working on entertaining exercise programs that automatically recognize small, intentional hand and reinforce them with rewards. Building a video-based movement tracking system, the researchers face challenges like recognizing a range of possible movements and minimizing potential distractions. To meet these demands, the team is using simple cameras in combination with customized image processing and adapted learning algorithms. Read more about the project (https://lnkd.in/dK-rU-zb) & catch Paul Chojecki at the World Rett Syndrome Congress in Gold Coast, Australia 🇦🇺!
