As the number of natural disasters around the world continues to rise, it is heartening to see how local ERGO entities are stepping up to help those in need. In light of the recent flooding in the northern parts of Thailand, ERGO Insurance Thailand's offices in the affected areas have come together to organise and distribute relief kits containing rice and other essential items to help expedite relief efforts for disaster victims in these areas. In addition, ERGO Thailand is also donating essential items to support the disaster victims through the Goodness Foundation, supported by personal donations from our local colleagues. Can digitisation help to combine both insurance services and other services relating to Motor, Health or Pet insurance? Yes, it can - and HDFC ERGO General Insurance shows how. India-based HDFC ERGO General Insurance is ERGO group’s one of the most promising digital units. The company set off on a digital transformation journey in 2019. In the wake of this, HDFC ERGO General Insurance has among other things developed a unique insurance led ecosystem: HERE. The app offers both, insurance services and information primarily relating to Motor and Health, along with information on other evolving insurance categories like Cyber and Pet. 📱 HDFC ERGO customers and non-customers alike can use the app to book car towing services, pay speeding tickets or exchange information on hospitals, medical specialists, etc. with other users. Since being released in August 2023, the app has already been installed over 6.2 million times. It has 230.000 monthly downloads and 390.000 monthly active users. The app makes HDFC ERGO a leader in its local market and serves as a blueprint for numerous other companies. ERGO intends to be a digital leader in the insurance industry by 2025 – both in Germany and in its core international markets. ERGO, together with Wirtschaftsförderung Düsseldorf and TechHub.K67, has launched ERGO ScaleHub, a programme aimed at providing targeted support for scale-ups in the fields of healthcare, finance and insurance in Düsseldorf. 🤝 For the Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf, the new programme is "a further facet of a long-standing and successful partnership with ERGO": Since 2019, ERGO has been providing the city with project-related support for various digital initiatives, for example for the Kunstpalast art museum and the central library. The aim was to cover as many private and professional journeys as possible by bike for 21 days. The locations Düsseldorf, Berlin, Mannheim, Nuremberg, Munich, Cologne and Hamburg are all part of #teamERGO. All seven locations have been enthusiastically pedalling. They have covered a remarkable distance of 115.330 kilometres! Our Indian joint venture HDFC ERGO General Insurance conducted the first edition of the TechPreneur Day – a first-of-its-kind initiative by the company aimed at bolstering innovation in the Indian insurance sector. As part of the challenge, HDFC ERGO in partnership with Boston Consulting Group (BCG), Google Cloud and HEITTB invited start-ups to pitch their solutions and innovations for the insurance industry focussing on six key areas: 👉 Generative AI 👉 Motor & Health Claims Processing 👉 Fraud Detection 👉 Marketing Technology 👉 Customer Experience Management 👉 Underwriting Out of more than 140 start-ups, seven finalists were selected in several rounds to present their ideas to a jury of senior leaders from HDFC ERGO, BCG and HEIITB – with Zyla Health, Z-Score and Amnic emerging as the winners. “By offering a platform to emerging insuretech start-ups, we want to foster the next wave of innovation that will shape insurance landscape in India”, says Parthanil Ghosh, Director and Chief Business Officer at HDFC ERGO General Insurance: “The challenge embodies HDFC ERGO’s commitment to fostering innovation and delivering enhanced services to customers.” The winners were awarded an opportunity for a paid Proof-of-Concept (POC) with HDFC ERGO. In addition, the winners also received Google Cloud Credits, granting them access to Google's robust cloud computing resources, enabling them to further develop and scale their cutting-edge solutions. Georgina Neitzel, our Head of ERGO Innovation Lab, took part at the Bitkom event “AI & Data Summit 2024”. The conference deals with the application of artificial intelligence and data in business. Key topics included the AI Act, generative AI trends, data management and the latest AI innovations driving growth and efficiency. Georgina Neitzel talked about “Transforming Insurance: Practical Insights with Multimodal GenAI” and shared some learnings of ERGO’s innovation journey, e.g.: 💻 By integrating GenAI, we significantly reduce the time needed for design sprints without compromising on quality. This enables departments with limited time to actively participate in the innovation process. Human creativity remains at the centre, while AI provides support and delivers more efficient and diverse results. 🛋️ We are conducting small-scale exploratory projects to test how multimodal GenAI can be used in the insurance industry. One example is the automation of home inventory. With a simple video recording of a room, GenAI can automatically create a list of all furniture and household items, assign estimated values and provide insurance recommendations. 🔍 Large Language Models (LLMs) are fundamentally changing how people search for information. The shift from traditional keyword search to conversational queries forces us to rethink how we structure our content in order to remain relevant and visible in this new era of search.
