At AMB, we will present a manufacturing system for the machining of planetary gears in the agricultural industry. This system combines turning on a VL 4 with hobbing of the tooth profiles on a CLC 200 from EMAG SU. The new MRC robot cell provides a modular automation platform for machine loading and link-up. With the bin-picking module, raw-parts can also be handled as bulk material in an efficient and resource-saving manner. "Classic" automatic transmissions are usually based on torque converter technology: they have a torque converter inside, which (among other things) massively increases the torque at rather low engine speeds, which in turn makes it easier to start the car. Interestingly, no gears are used as in other transmissions. In 1905, the German engineer Hermann Föttinger described the whole thing for the first time in a patent application. He called it a "fluid transmission," which nicely outlines the basic approach, as oil flows inside the torque converter ensure power transmission.
