Thank you, GeFP team, for lifting the veil on this project; this is the first project and serves as the blueprint for green methanol products from sewage sludge in South Africa. Ultimately, it delivers a green methanol corridor, delivering E-Fuels for decarbonising the Marin Sector and delivering valuable low-carbon chemical feedstock. 📆 In unserer Reihe "H2-Update: weltweit" beleuchten wir am Donnerstag, den 29. Februar 2024 in unserem #Webinar dieses Mal den Markthochlauf der #Wasserstoffwirtschaft im südlichen #Afrika – insbesondere in #Südafrika, #Namibia und #Angola. Mit der „#Hydrogen Society Roadmap“ konkretisiert die Regierung #Südafrika|s ihre Pläne zur Nutzung von Wasserstoff. Neben dem Export setzt das Land dabei auf Anwendungsfelder in der eigenen Industrie. Auf Basis von lokalen Platin-Vorkommen und einer erfahrenen Chemiebranche könnte Südafrika auch zum Technologieanbieter von #Brennstoffzellen und Elektrolyseuren werden. In #Namibia denken einige der beteiligten Akteure in Gigawatt. Die klimatischen und naturräumlichen Voraussetzungen für die Produktion von grünem #Wasserstoff im Großmaßstab könnten kaum besser sein. #Angola wiederum besitzt noch ungenutzte Ressourcen bei der #Wasserkraft, um ebenfalls beim Thema grüner Wasserstoff mitzumischen. Wie ist der aktuelle Stand der entstehenden Wasserstoffwirtschaft in der Region? Welche Einsatzmöglichkeiten und Exportchancen von Wasserstoff und seiner Derivate werden dort diskutiert? Creating #business #linkages to foster an emerging #GreenHydrogen economy in #SouthAfrica and #Namibia was the topic of last week’s #delegation from #Germany funded by the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action . The first part of the delegation trip took the 7 German #technologyproviders to #Johannesburg where we hosted an event on the topic of Hydrogen and #PtX. Speakers included Dr. Wolgang Langen from the Federal Ministry for Economics and Climate Action, Mahandra Rooplall from the Industrial Development Corporation, Mr Ronald Upmann from #BSW, the German Solar Association and Dr. Oliver Weinmann, President of the German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, #DWV. German solution providers also presented on their products and services: ABB, KSB Company, Condensator Dominit GmbH, ENERTRAG, EKONAMI SE, AOT Technologies and TÜV SÜD. GeFP, a South African Project developing company in the E-Fuel space, has announced a project in partnership with EKONAMI SE who is part of a German Consortium to develop a Green Methanol project. The project aims to produce 800,000 tons per year of Green Methanol using renewable sources of carbon. The first steps of the project will deliver 20.000tpa Green MeOH in the Vaal region. Methanol is an important feedstock for the chemical industry, and this project will help decarbonize South Africa's marine and chemical sectors. GeFP will utilize EKONAMI SE‘s modular electrolysis and methanol synthesis equipment to create one of the largest Green Methanol productions in the world. The project is expected to take place over a span of ten years, with a total scope of supply close to 1 GW. Additionally, the project will establish a Green Methanol Corridor that extends from Gauteng to KwaZulu Natal.
