As the UN report highlights that global efforts are way off track in tackling climate change, it’s clear that critical areas are still being overlooked—wildfires being a prime example. Two years ago, Dryad Networks published a white paper emphasizing how the devastating impact of wildfires on emissions isn’t given enough attention at COP, and here we are again, with nothing changing. Forest fires, like the record ones in Canada, are creating massive carbon feedback loops, yet the urgency around addressing them remains minimal. If COP29 is to be the turning point the UN envisions, wildfire prevention and management must be front and centre. Without this focus, we risk letting these disasters become permanent emissions sources, undermining global targets and driving us further from the 1.5°C pathway. The time for bold action is now—let’s ensure COP29 finally addresses this critical gap. https://lnkd.in/eSHXjbYQ #climateaction #cop29 #wildfireprevention #carbonemissions #climatechange #globalwarming #climatesolutions #sustainability #forestconservation

As the 2024 wildfire season draws to a close, our CEO, Carsten Brinkschulte, challenges a common misconception: wet winters don’t necessarily reduce wildfire risk—instead, they can amplify it. Carsten explains how climate change leads to weather extremes—more rain in winter, followed by dry, windy springs and summers. This creates lush vegetation that turns into tinder, setting the stage for intense fires later in the year. With more people living in the wildland-urban interface, the stakes are higher than ever. So, what’s next? Carsten highlights cutting-edge technologies, like Dryad Networks’ large-scale IoT network of solar-powered sensors for ultra-early fire detection. These sensors detect the earliest signs of fire, providing critical time for responders to act before fires grow uncontrollable. 🌲 As we reflect on this season’s challenges, it’s clear that combining innovative technology with proactive strategies is essential to protecting our forests and communities from future threats. We’re thrilled to announce that Dryad Networks has been recognized by WIRED as one of the Hottest Startups in Berlin for 2024! 🚀 This incredible honor reflects our team’s dedication to revolutionizing wildfire detection and forest health monitoring with our Silvanet technology. We’ve developed an ultra-early detection system powered by solar energy and IoT mesh networks that operates in even the most remote areas of the world. But that’s just the beginning. Our vision extends beyond wildfire prevention to creating an “app store for the forest,” where our network supports a wide range of applications, such as forest health monitoring, chainsaw noise detection, and predictive sensors for real-time fire risk mapping. With thousands of sensors already deployed across 50 countries, we’re excited to see what’s next for Dryad as we continue to help protect the world’s largest carbon sink and tackle one of the most pressing climate challenges of our time. A huge thank you to our team, partners, and customers for believing in our vision. And a special shoutout to WIRED for this amazing recognition! 🙌 👉 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/e5rRVUXN. With wildfires in Canada growing more unpredictable and dangerous, early detection is more crucial than ever. That’s why we’re working with the TELUS Pollinator Fund for Good to bring innovative solutions to the table. 🇨🇦 At Dryad Networks, we’re rolling out a solar-powered, ultra-early wildfire detection system. Our gas sensors act like an “electronic nose,” detecting fires at their earliest stages—before they spread out of control. By shortening the time between fire ignition and detection, we’re helping prevent wildfires from becoming devastating events. As the climate changes and wildfires become more frequent, it’s technology like ours that will make a real difference. Thanks to TELUS and Justis Cooper for this great video! 📹 #wildfireprevention #climateaction #earlydetection #forestprotection #techforgood #innovation #sustainability #solarpower #environmentalimpact #canadawildfires #smartforests #teluspollinatorfund #firemanagement #greentechnology #startupcollaboration
