Earlier this year, #CIMAC was granted consultative status with the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This is having very practical effects on CIMAC's work. For example, at the end of September, CIMAC president Rick Boom was a guest at the World #Maritime Day reception, with the IMO building decorated with the flags of the member states. The theme of the day was: “Navigating the future: safety first!” Tomas Aminoff (left, ABB) and Marco Coppo (right, OMT - Officine Meccaniche Torino SpA) attended the 82nd meeting of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC). Upcoming meetings: Expert Group meeting on data harmonization, with Marco Coppo, Constantin Kiesling (LEC GmbH) and Daniel Erdmann attending, IMO Maritime Safety Committee meeting (MSC 109), with CIMAC VP Digitalization Eero Lehtovaara (ABB) and Daniel Erdmann attending. #power #drives #propulsion

The #CIMAC CONGRESS in Zurich is getting closer. With Prof. Lynn Loo, CEO at the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD), an exciting keynote speaker has been confirmed. We are pleased that she is on board. An inspiring #CIMAC CIRCLE discussion today at the #SMMfair on the Green Stage! Historically, #ships have been designed with focus on CAPEX. However, at the latest since environmental impacts and in particular #GHG have been playing an increasing role, vessel design has to be adopted. Designs are needed that perform their function in the most efficient way and provide a means of collecting data to validate their efficiency levels throughout the lifetime. #Digitalization offers huge opportunities to develop optimized technical solutions and create added value. Such solutions have long been a reality in various industries, #cars use it, #airplanes too. The #maritime industry is still struggling with this, close cooperation all along the value chain and of all stakeholders - #ship owners & operators, International Maritime Organization , shipyards, to name just a few – is urgently required.
