Loughlan, has been appointed by the Director-General of #DGMOVE, Magda Kopczyńska, as an observer for the new sub-group on recharging and refueling infrastructure for zero emission heavy-duty vehicles of the Sustainable Transport Forum (STF). The STF, organized by the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (‘DG MOVE’), is composed of numerous experts from all over Europe including our shareholders #Daimler Truck AG and #Volvo AB. The appointment is valid for a maximum of 4 years, starting on September 1, 2024. With this appointment, cellcentric once again plays an important role in the development of the European hydrogen ecosystem. #cellcentric #fuelcell #hydrogen #wepowersustainablelife About STF and the new sub-group: The STF was established by the European Commission on April 23, 2015, and was set up to assist the Commission in implementing the Union’s activities and programs aimed at fostering the deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure to contribute to the European Union energy and climate goals. The STF serves as a platform for structural dialogue, exchange of technical knowledge, cooperation and coordination between Union Member States and relevant public and private stakeholders.   The newly established sub-group is to assist the Commission in developing a substantive understanding of and recommendations on the planning, deployment and operation of zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles (buses, coaches and trucks) and corresponding recharging and refueling infrastructure, in particular along the TEN-T network and in urban nodes. The outcomes of this work will contribute to the drafting of the Commission’s technology and market-readiness report dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles, and support and facilitate the deployment of this critical infrastructure, to meet the requirements of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) and help ensure sufficient availability of recharging and refueling infrastructure matching the demand of relevant use cases.

Member of German Parliament Renata Alt and member of State Parliament of Baden-Wuerttemberg Dennis Birnstock on summer tour at #cellcentric. Renata Alt met with Nicholas Loughlan, Chief Technology Officer of cellcentric, to exchange experiences at the cellcentric headquarters in Kirchheim/Teck-Nabern. The focus was on the core principles of our development work and industrial pilot production, which more than 560 highly qualified employees in Kirchheim, Esslingen, Stuttgart and Burnaby (Canada) drive forward on a daily basis. The role of cellcentric as a key driver in the decarbonization of global heavy-duty long-haul transportation by truck and the strong roots of cellcentric and its employees in the region were also discussed. Central challenges were also on the list of topics - the shortage of skilled workers, high labor costs and massive energy costs in Germany. The latter have a direct impact on the production of hydrogen. Nicholas Loughlan therefore called for clear and reliable framework conditions and openness to technology from politicians. Renata Alt was particularly interested in the development of fuel cell production. "In view of the changed international geopolitical situation, it is extremely important to strengthen Germany as a business location," emphasized the MP. "For us as FDP parliamentary group in the German Parliament, it is important to drive forward the further reduction of bureaucracy and create framework conditions for the preservation of jobs and investment." Dennis Birnstock visited our state-of-the-art, industrialized fuel cell pilot production in Esslingen-Pliensauvorstadt. In conversation with Andrea Engelen, Global Head of External Affairs & Government Relations at cellcentric, he was interested in the key fuel cell technology in the context of decarbonization, current challenges in the production and transport of green hydrogen and the status of the scaling of fuel cells and associated truck fleets. During a tour of the production facility, he also examined details of fuel cell components and industrialized production. "It was impressive to see how a key mobility technology is being anchored here in the Esslingen district with passion and expertise and how production capacities are being built up. A visit to a company like cellcentric, whose activities symbolize a kind of awakening and which is an important player in the district - and worldwide - was a must on my summer tour. My expectations were far exceeded. I would like to thank Ms. Engelen and her colleagues for the enriching exchange and for allowing me to gain an insight into production, systems and processes at such an early stage," Dennis Birnstock sums up. "It goes without saying that I will incorporate the political demands into my political work. What I have learned encourages me to continue to fight for relief and less bureaucracy so that new barriers and mountains of paper are not constantly placed in the way of such progress projects."

We are very happy to announce that Daimler Truck AG Truck starts initial customer trials with five Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks equipped with our fuel cell systems, today in Wuerth.   At the Daimler Truck Test and Development Center in Woerth am Rhein, Martin Daum, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck, celebrated the start of the initial customer trials of five Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Truck fuel cell prototype trucks in the presence of Hildegard Müller, President of the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), with Amazon, Air Products, Holcim, INEOS and Wiedmann & Winz GmbH. These customers have the opportunity to gain practical experience in long-distance transport with fuel cell trucks at an early stage, during a trial phase of around one year.   On the other hand, the Daimler Truck development team acquires valuable insights into the real-life operations of trucks powered by liquid hydrogen, learns about specific customer requirements and can take them into account for series development.   The five GenH2 Trucks will be deployed in different long-haul applications on specific routes in Germany, such as the transport of building materials, sea containers or cylinder gases. During these first customer trials the vehicles will remain under the direct supervision and responsibility of the manufacturer.   A great milestone for all of us. Our pilot production facility for fuel cell systems in Esslingen (Germany), which was inaugurated on June 20 with a high-profile event, is attracting a great deal of interest. This week, we welcomed the members of the German Parliament, Dr. Sandra Detzer and Matthias Gastel, and their teams to cellcentric. They learned about the importance of fuel cell technology and the associated use of hydrogen, including hydrogen infrastructure, with the aim of CO2-neutral long-distance heavy-duty transportation as well as further mobile and stationary applications of fuel cells.   During the pilot production facility tour, cellcentric's Peter Fagerman (Head of European Production), Andrea Engelen (Global Head of External Affairs & Government Relations) and Dr. Florian Henkel (Lead External Affairs & Government Relations) illustrated the automated fuel cell production with all process steps under one roof at cellcentric's Esslingen site.   The members of the German parliament were impressed by our consistent path towards the industrialization of fuel cell production according to automotive standards. Last week was a big milestone for cellcentric and the region with the inauguration of the pilot production for fuel cells at our new site in Esslingen. Our management team around Lars Johansson welcomed special guests from politics, industry, science and research to this exclusive opening event. It included a guided tour of the entire process chain and its production steps. The first stop was the ink mixing and coating area, where our employees explained how the dispersion for the subsequent roller coating is produced. One of the highlights and unique machines is the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA), where the components of the individual cells are assembled in a highly automated roll-to-piece process. This is followed by the fully automated sealing process, where the seals are applied by injection molding. From here it goes directly to stacking – or ”sandwich making” as we like to call it – where the individual cells are combined to form the core of every fuel cell: the fuel cell stack. Afterwards stacks are assembled with many other important parts in an assembly line station-by-station according to automotive mass-production standards. Our goal is to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible as we continue to ramp up our production. The final step in our production process is inline quality testing, where our products are tested to ensure the highest quality. This unique production facility will include every step of production in one location – from ink to a final fuel cell system for our customers! With more than 10,300 square meters of production, logistics and office/administrative space, over 100 employees are strongly contributing to the way for large-scale production by the end of this decade. #cellcentric #fuelcell #hydrogen #carbonneutral
